L2800 won\'t start

I have a L2800 with only 95 hours on it and it has run fine up until this last snow when I took it out to plow. Started up ok and ran about 2 minutes and stalled. can't get it started again. Its been fairly cold here, but I do store it in a shed. I tok the fuel filter off and it had a disc of ice in the bottom of it. Dumped that and there seems to be plenty of fuel when I screwed it back on. Still acts like its getting no fuel. They told me not to use ether to start it. Any ideas? Could it stillbe a clog in fuel line somewhere. Its in the 20's so its not overly cold. I keep thinking its a fuel line. Thanks for any suggestions

I would say fuel gel but that is not really that cold. Maybe some water got by the filter and froze up?

I'd be careful about either. Kubota's pre-heat with glow plugs and either will literally blow the head off the tractor if the either ignites from a glow plug.

Sounds like a better idea would be to use a hair dryer aimed at the fuel lines and filter for a while to warm them up. That should do the trick. Put some Powerservice Diesel 911 in the fuel tank prior to warming the lines and filter up. (follow the directions for dillution ratio on the bottle).

You either need to treat your fuel with anti-gel/de-icer or change to a different supply of fuel, preferrably winterized.

You can switch filters and all that and still not get it started because the fuel system probably lost prime when it died.

Look in your manual and see what the procedure is for priming the fuel system. Sometimes it can be involved, such as cracking open injector lines to let the air out. Hopefully this isn't one of those systems.

I believe all Kubota's have a bypass/primer circuit on their smaller units. Normally, you open a knurled thumbwheel and crank the engine until it starts. Then close the thumbwheel. On the larger units, like mine, there is a primer pump (like a Caterpillar Diesel) that you pressurize the system with. Either way, I'd unthaw the fuel system with some outside heat and fuel additive before trying to re-prime.

If you had ice in the filter you probably have a bit of water in the fuel. Add some fuel treatment to help with that.

Thank you all for your help. It indeed started after I bled the system. It was actually real simple. The thumbwell is in an easy access spot. Thanks again for all responses.

Dude, if you got water in your fuel it's time to buy your fuel somewhere else. Maybe the container you used had moisture in it. Anyway time to treat your fuel with some good fuel additive. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hampton:

First off, welcome to TBYNet. This is a great place to obtain knowledge and tips that will make life easier for you and your tractor. It's always nice to benefit from others experiences.

Secondly, you need to fill in your Bio so that we may know more about you, your equipment and your interests.

Thirdly, if you provide fuel for your CUT from a five gallon can or other portable device, condensation can be a problem in stored fuel sitting for a while. To that end, I might suggest purchasing a Mr. Funnel. I have one though I pump my fuel from a bulk tank (1000 gallon) that has fuel treatment in it.

I use the Mr. Funnel to filter the water out of the gasoline that I use in my lawnmower and other power tools. The Mr. Funnel works equally well with gas or diesel. Basically, it has a one way membrane that allows fuel to pass but traps the water which you pour out after filling your tank.

It works great and it keeps the sediment out of your tank too.
