L2950 purchase, or not?

Looking at a L2950 with bucket loader. 1000 hours, owner wants 9k. Has the Everclutch. He said it was made in '99, but they were actually made 90-93. Is this a good buy or not? Seems weird paying for an 18 year old machine what it cost new!! I can buy a very low hour B7510 with bucket for the same money in mint shape. Obviously different units.

To replace the 2950 would run well over twenty! For such few hours I think the price is more then fair if in reasonable condition.

What are your needs. These are 2 very different machines.

My neighbor has a 1992 L3450 and it is the main reason why I bought a Kubota. He has close to 3000 hours on his. I can hear that tractor run almost every day. I believe that the 2950 is very similar and should serve you well.

For a well cared-for, straight-up tractor from a respected maker, it's not unusual to pay used what the tractor sold for new 10 or 12 years earlier. In my experience this begins to hold true somewhere around the 8-10 year mark. Beyond 20 or 25 years, if the machine is still looking & running good, it may sell for MORE than it went for new.

Though not exactly an investment, tractors aren't a bad place to park money if you have the need for them and can take care of them. I'm talking a cash buy, here, not borrowing to buy.

The key to buying used, IMHO, is to know the tractor, its owner and how it was cared for. If you don't know these things, then newer is better as there's been less time for abuse. I hate buying problems.
