Tractor
Ford 200 gas, 3cyl.
Spoke to my salesman this evening and committed to the 3000dt. He is really working to get me a deal I can live with. Tractor w/ R1 tires, $11,195 delivered to my home. Wheels spread out all the way and fluid in the rear tires, add $100. Three front weights and front weight bracket mounted, add $180. That was a good enough price to allow me to abandon the home made front weight box idea. I'll sign the contract Thursday. He will have to order this unit and thinks he can get it in within a couple of weeks or so. With 10% down I think I can get Kubota financing for 5.49% interest. My question for you experienced owners is what I should plan for the cost of the required 50 hour service. I've read a couple of posts about the hydraulic filters/ fluid being no fun to change. I promise some pics when I take delivery. Thank you all for the great advise. It really helped. JD

jimbo,

I say do it yourself! If you have the most basic of tools and skill, you can easily do it. I like the idea of making sure everything is done right (it's not rocket science). I like to know and specify the different oils and such. Although, I like getting greasy :)........and you will get greasy. You'll be amazed at what comes out of the system the first time. There is plenty of information on this site to do it yourself.....and you'll learn some good things about your new machine.

Congrats on the new tractor, you will really enjoy working it!

On the 50 hr service: The biggest expense is the filters and I think the most expensive one is for the HST which you don't have. Unless, you change to Amsoil, then the fluid is the most expensive item. As to doing it your self, go for it. It is really no big deal. You will need a 5 gal bucket to catch the oil from the transmission and a place to store the 10+ gallons of fluid. If you go slow and only pull one drain plug at a time the mess is no worse than a car. Except for the front axle fluid. That was a pain as there is not much room to put a funnel to catch the fluid.

After I changed mine, I had the bright idea to make a small pipe fitting elbow and valve to pop in to the drain to allow the fluid to clear the tire. It's still a concept, but it should make that part of the job much less messy for only a couple of bucks.

Best of luck with the new baby!

I think what Jim's getting looks a little more like this:

And Jim, when I got my L2500DT (very much like the L3000), I had little choice but to do my own service on it, since it's an hour's drive to the nearest dealer and I don't have a trailer. The good news is that it wasn't all that hard to do (and I can barely do tune-ups on my pickup truck).

If you like pictures, I have a few on my web site that shows some of my maintenance adventure.

Congrats. I saw on the web site a few weeks ago that the B series 50 hour check-up was about $250.

Yep, I saw it there, too. It's actually the L2600/L3000/L4300 section.

The Kubota web site never ceases to underwhelm me with its shortage of pictures and information. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif Maybe we should loan them a couple of Chishti brothers for a week or two. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

But don't worry, Jim, the 3000 is still a lot of tractor for the money.

I'm glad for you Jim about your new L3000. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
It maybe worth it have the dealer do the 50hr service, for the tech might see an on coming problem etc...and if you could be there when the 50hr service being done, you can learn some tricks of there trades also ask question.
You got two weeks to make room for L3000,and read the manuels from front to back a couple of times. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Stay safe.

Congratulations on the new tractor. I like my L3000, six months old and about 40 hours. I wil let you know how the 50 hour work goes, I plan on doing it myself.

Read the manual before you play too hard with your new tractor it is worth the time.
