I am preparing to do the 50 hour service on my 3010. Reading the manual I get the idea that the HST and the hydrylic system share the fluid but have different filters. Is this correct? If it is than the four drain points remove the fluid from both systems, correct?

Also,

Unless you already know for sure, you probably should confirm with the dealer where you get your filters which one goes where.

Some of us in the past have been confused by the lack of identification on the filters installed on the new tractor. On my B2910 they were all gray and NOT identified with any numbers. Also there was a little bit of physical difference between the new and old.

At least one person here reported he actually got the filters on wrong, and had to take them back off and switch them...

I know you probably think "there is NO WAY I could get confused by such a simple thing as an oil filter!"

Believe me...you can!

And no, I wasn't the one that got the filters on wrong...but I certainly could have been!

Have fun...maybe you already have the job done /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I won't be able to get to it until this weekend. And now they are forcasting snow - sounds like fun. The dealer gave me the Kubota filters in their boxes so I have the part numbers. But from everything I have read I should start this project early, since fluids will drain slow due to temp. Thanks for the responses, it helps to have confidence that one knows what they are doing.

Hi again,

My filters from the dealer had numbers on them too...

Maybe your manual does a better job than the B2910 manual does...you make a good point about the weather. Much more uncomfortable when it is could when things go wrong...or questions come up unexpectedly...

So...I would suggest that you take a couple minutes and look at the filters on the tractor and find out weather you are certain which goes where BEFORE you start the process of draining/changing...

"Been there/done that" is speaking now, I suppose.

Just such a drag when the simple becomes difficult! Why this happens I don't know..but it does more than it should!

Other than that, the 50 hour service is a piece of cake.

The hydraulic filter is on the right hand side as you are sitting on the tractor. The high dollar aluminum threaded filter goes under the step and is the HST filter. It is extremely hard to get off. Using a filter wrench on the HST filter will just spin the outside can. The base of the filter has 4 indentions that will have to be used with a chain wrench or hammer and punch. The tractor isn't quite high enough to get 5 gallon buckets under it so it has to be raised or have big pans as you will have to dispose of 10 gallons of fluid. Normal metric wrench sets don't have large enough wrenches for the drain plugs and strainer plugs. It is not a hard job if you allow for enough time and have the proper tools. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for mentioning about the tools - since the tractor is up north (4 hours away) I better remember to take my big toolbox with me. I doubt that I have the right wrenches up there. Last time I was there I looked at all the filters, and identified which one goes where, just to make sure I had everything I needed, as a matter of fact that's when I realized I was two jugs short of fluid. I went to the dealer, and he just grabbed a box and carried it out to my truck, since he had thrown in everything needed for the 50 hour service when I bought it. Now does anyone have a best method for collecting the fluid as it drains?

I am going to save this thread because I plan to do the 50-hour myself.
Please let me know how things work out!
I am an electrolyte and therefore mechanically challenged.
I have convinced myself that 5 drain plugs and 5 filters along with 10 or so grease fittings is worth the exploration. But a challenge to me nonetheless.
Better yet, I think I will still conduct the procedure and invite one of my M.E.s over for a snack.
He can supervises my activity!
If anyone can screw this up it's me!

I used 2 5 gallon buckets to catch the HST fluid after running the tractor up on blocks for more clearance (I do not have a loader). When I drained the front axle fluids in to pans on each end of the wheel ends, I folded cardboard in a "V" to funnel the oil to the pans. The HST strainer is hard to get out of the housing bore, the line and fitting has to be moved slightly to get the stariner out and in.

Well I got up to my tractor, and found my new barn completed. I spent what time I had moving my implements inside, and once more going over what was needed to complete the service. I also brought the filters home, as each one appears to be a different size, I want to make sure I have a wrench that fits them all. I also only had 43 hours on the tractor at the start of the weekend, but 48 at the end. Now I found out that I need to go to California for work this weekend and next week. Hopefully the snow isn't to deep when I return. I am thinking of mounting a spigot of some sort on a 5 gallon pail, so I can return the used oil to the original jugs. My dealer uses the used oil for heating his shop so there won't be a problem with disposal. I plan on posting my experience on doing the service before the end of november, stay tuned....
