Re: L3130 or L3830 can\'t decide

Is it safe to use the bucket for dirt work without the cutting edge? Is the cutting edge designed to be a sacrifical piece to prevent wearing down the edge of the bucket?

How much did it cost you to add the TnT? Is it all Kubota parts, or mix and match?

Check the multitude of threads on toothbars. If you're going to do much digging, you'd be wise to go ahead and get one. The difference is amazing. You should be able to get one from one of the online merchants here for under $400 for your bucket. Oh, and an added bonus is that they look really cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

They really shine when you're clearing brush, as the teeth can be "tangled" in the loose brush, thus making transport so much easier. I could go on, but it's all been covered before.

DCRC,

While there are few really true guarantees in life, as a guy who only bets on sure things...which means I don't bet often...

I am willing to bet if you find yourself on the seat of a L3830 you will pat yourself on the back many more times than you will kick yourself in the butt... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nice rig, congratulations! And I second the motion to get yourself a toothbar. That's the only thing I still don't have that I wish I'd gotten in the first place.

Re: L3130 or L3830 can\'t decide

Don't worry about wearing out the cutting edge. Unless you do a tremendous amount of earth moving or regularly drag your bucket edge over asphalt or concrete as you would in snow removal, it will take a very long time to wear out a bucket edge. On top of that, a bolt on edge can always be purchased now or after you've worn out the original. Not an issue. I have a toothbar and find there are times it is very advantageous, and times I take it off. For lots of earth moving, I keep it on as it adds to the capacity the bucket can carry. It works well for cleaining up roots, branches and other debris and aids in digging. It is not so great for backgrading (sometimes) and very difficult to use for the small pickup of dirt etc off hard surfaces like concrete.
