Bill,
They pronounce it Hock-n-hiem, I try not too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif And yes, the road sign is near my property. FM951 is about a mile up Highway 111 from my property, and we're about 2 miles outside of Yoakum. The sign holds a double meaning though and that's why I use it. My pride and joy (crowned the Garage Queen by the misses) is also a 951. I have an 86 Porsche 944 Turbo (Porsche internal designation model 951) in the garage. Porsche also made a tractor awhile back. I'd love to have one of those to restore - but then I'd never want to get it dirty.

We're in the process of building a home for my parents on the property (going out tomorrow to work on the foundation). So the tractor will be under my dads watchful eye. Now if I can just figure out how to keep him from running it out of fuel. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

WOW! I had seen the second one (the smaller of the two). I had not had the chance to see what it went for. Over $5000! I'd love to have one of those. The other is already at $4500 and looks like it will go for more as well. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The CFO says we need a work tractor for now, and she's right. So the real "toy" will have to wait for awhile. Not that I won't enjoy the Kubota - just don't tell Joyce! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just my 3 cents but you have enough tractor for a 6 foot cutter - I'd go for it. I have a smaller tractor (L2500), and it's rated for a 6 foot cutter although I do have a 5 footer. As said if you get into really heavy stuff you just go a little slower but you'll still get done faster with a 6 footer. Also re the slip clutch - I hogged 4 foot tall brush and small trees like you described when I was first "re-claiming" my land that had gone unmowed for a few years, and I have yet to shear a bolt. Because the arms swing, unless you hit something solid with the inner arm, the cutter can take some heavy abuse so you might want to re-consider the slip clutch. Only cost $100 but they require periodic maintenance and should be inttentionally slipped to avoid freezing up. (Now post hole diggers are another story - I go through a LOT of bolts there!!). I'd also put slime in your tires - even if you go over some thorns you won't get a flat that way - stuff works well.

Gerard,
Thanks for the tips. We're leaving in a few minutes to meet with the dealer. I plan on asking once again why they do not recommend the 6 foot rotary cutter. Seems to me that the consensus of the board is that the tractor will pull the larger cutter. I've still got a few dollars left in the budget, so we'll see what we can do to spend it all. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif No sense in coming home with it, I'll just waste it on the 951. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Wish me luck!
