L3130 underpower problems Part Deux!!

I am glad to know of a filler strainer that will fit my L3130. I had one in the tank of my B6100E and thought that it was a very good idea. I will order one soon.

( No, not crud in the filter, debris in the outlet of the fuel tank blocking the diesel from getting to the filter if I understand correctly. I have 400 hours on my original fuel filter and will not be replacing it. Fuel filters get dirty primarily from dirty cans. Even the fuel stations have double filters on their pumps around here. I have done a visual on mine and it is clean as a whistle. )

Not to be rude, but an eyeball visual of a fuel filter that has an 8 micron filtering capacity is virtually worthless........change it at least the recommended times of once every 100 hours.

Remember, it only takes ONE batch of cruddy rotgut fuel to destroy your FIE. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No your not being rude, but until I get even a slight restriction, I will not be changing the filter, at least not on the cleaning intervals suggested. As you mention, the particles that are so small to be seen are also the very ones that are very easy to introduce into a fuel system if you don't take the maximum care in the filter replacement/cleaning in the first place. If your clogging up the filter by introducing matter in the first place, consider a different source for fuel or change your fueling practice. A dirty filter will filter better but restrict more. The visual clues you in about the quality of fuel your introducing. The L 30 series manual suggests you change it every 400 hours, after the intial change at 800 hours not 100 hours. I would prefer not to do the 100 hour cleaning of the filter in kerosene as the manual suggest simply because that crud that the filter traps on the outside could be introduced via the kerosene to the inside and a direct path to the injectors. If your doing the 100 hour cleaning, I would suggest you might be better off replacing it. Crud build up on the filter is not unusual, it does not represent an issue unless it is actually restriciting the fuel supply which is obviously very small. If your changing it at 100 hours and need to, prefilter your fuel. If you just like changing the fuel filter at 100 hours, all the power to you.

I agree. I recently did my 100 hr service. the fuel filter looked fine looking through the glass, but upon disassembly, there was a fine particulate film that was quite noticeable. Swishing the filter element in a bowl of kerosene, as suggested in the owner's manual, got rid of it.

Just another example of why it's a good idea, IMHO, to follow the service recommendations pretty carefully.

If I had read your saga earlier I might have recognized the symptoms - my tractor had a similar issue - ok on flat ground with a full fuel tank, but lost power on hillls. Finally found some strands of fibrous junk in the outlet pipe from the tank restricting the flow. It acted like a failing diesel pump - ($$). I think the prior owner traded the tractor in early because he was sick of dealing with it. Once identified, it was an easy fix.
Glad you're getting back to enjoying your tractor. Hope it stays fixed. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

( OK! here's what the problem was. Foreign debris in the fuel tank restricting the flow of fuel...... It now seems OK! Don't want to speak too soon! )

So how did the dealer get 24 hp at the PTO on the dyno test?
