Tractor
Kubota L3130, Satoh G650, Case 580, Case 446
Hi all, this is my first time here, please be kind.
I'm looking at a new L3130, 72" Woods finish mower, 5' used Woods tiller. I have 46 acres, pasture, woods ,and low ground that I've been working with a 650 Satoh and 446 Case. Any suggestions, on this new tractor, the right one? I'll keep the old equipment.
Thanks
Bill

Bill I do not know how big your other two tractors are? but with 46 acres you need a 5030 as a minimum, and most likely bigger.

How much of the 46 acres will be routinely cut, tilled, or otherwise maintained with the new tractor? How much loader capacity do you need? Any other information to help us all let you know how to spend your money? :)

I have a 650 Satoh, 446 Case, and a 580D backhoe for loader. I'm looking at the L3130 for mowing about 5 acres a week with some trim work by smaller tractor. Mowing between trees on 18 acres of CREP program twice a year with 5' rotary mower. Tiller for large garden and general spot work, around landscape type work.
Thanks

Based on your stated plans for the tractor, I'd say it would be a great fit. It sounds like you are not in the position many get in of "probably or possibly" needing a larger tractor within a few months or year. I'm not familiar with the other tractors, but sounds like the Case may take care of all your larger needs. You might consider the L3430/L3830 just to benefit from greater PTO hp for a med-duty cutter rather than a lighter duty if you need it. The L3830 also has a greater capacity FEL if you need that.

The L3130/3430/3830 all use the LA723 loader. You have to move up to the L4330 to get a larger loader. The L3130 can use the lesser LA513 but I would not reccommend it.

SORRY, my bad! You would think I would have all that down since I researched all the Grand L models for so long before I bought the 5030! Thanks for correcting me :)

Hey - sometimes I forget where I am going from one end of the living room to the other, except to the bathroom. Ah the joys of an enlargwed prostate.

I see you pull a 6 foot Box Blade with your 3130. Is it a light or HD? Does it have any problems pulling it???

Thanks for the reply..........Just trying to get a little info...

I recently purchased a tractor almost exactly the same size as the 3130 and I have 38 acres. I will be doing lots of bushhogging, some loader work, planting garden, and cleaning up in the woods from mess left by Katrina. When I first got it home, I was afraid I'd bought too small. After moving BIG loads of debris with the loader and working some in the woods, power has not been an issue. I run a 5' HD bushhog, and will have a 7' med-hvy duty disc delivered next week. If you need a lot of pto HP, I'd go bigger. If it's not an issue you should be fine. Just MHO.

Mine is an old Modern BB that I would rate as HD. I have no problem using it although I do lose traction occasionaly in my sandy soil but that is rare. I think it works great.

Hey Tex,
What kind of tires you running? r-4's, Ags or Turfs??

I am running R4s mainly because of prickly pear and other spiney things. Ags and turfs are too vulnerable.

I tried to respond to your PM but it would not go. Said it did not recognize you, hmmmm.

I didn't reset all my settings when they revamped the board... Messages should be once again allowed.....I definitely need Ags as its really hilly and gets quite muddy where I am. I groom a lot of trails and some are quite steep. I'll be getting logged as soon as veneer oak goes up again and will have a lot of smoothing out to do.

Thanks for the input. I picked up my L3130 today 7/15/06, I picked up a 72" King Kutter rear discharge finish mower couple of days ago. I would have liked more hp but my dealer that is 6 mi from me is only stocking L 3130 and I got a **** of a deal. I looked up some threads on King Kutter and was nervous about quality, was really nervous as I put it together, but after 4 hours of brutal work, I am very happy with it. As far as the Kubota, man I love it, has plenty of power, and I have run tractors before. Also, there is a debate on transmissions going on now on TractorByNet, my input would be only hydrostatic. It was 90 + degrees today and I still got more done in 4 hours than I usually get done in two days. I also checked the 4 wheel drive out in a wet low ground, it justs unbelievable. I think I used about 4 gallons of fuel, I think I can tell the 4 wheel drive cuts the economy.

I'll be picking up my 3130 Monday or tuesday. I sold my other tractor and implements and this one will be ready for me next week. Pretty excited. I bought the 3130 because I need the weight and traction because my property is hilly and muddy. I got the 723 Loader because the lifting capacity was higher and the money wasn't that much more. I will keep you's posted.......
