I don't have a tiller but could see myself owning one. I had assumed that you could always set the depth shallow and just make more than one pass, each time going a little deeper. Am I wrong?

Not at all. That's what I've done most of the time. I find two or even three passes give the best results, particularly if it's clay soil or if it's a little wet.

Tillers take a lot of PTO HP and torque to run. I don't believe you would want to use anything higher than the 60" on the 3240. A few extra inches on a tiller uses more than most people realize in power. 66" would probably be okay but it may be pushing it. Land Pride makes a 58" model also. Do your homework. You don't want to stress the engine and drive train. You very well may be okay with the 66" but IMO no way on the 72".

I misread the operators manual. It states no larger that a 60" tiller. After visiting every website I could find, I've decided to go with a 60" Taylor or King Kutter. From a research perspective, the Land Prides are not as heavy as a Taylor or King Kutter nor do they have as many tines per flange. Some manufacturers list the required tractor horsepower and others the PTO HP. I'm going with the PTO HP. The L3240 can handle the 3pt weight but it only has 26.5 PTO HP.

Thanks to all for the advice. Trying to get the house started, sure don't need to tear up the tractor. Hoping to use the landscaping budget on the tractor attachments and do the work myself. Have always thought seed and fertilizer is expensive for the current 1/3 acre. I guess I'll really get to complain when we move out there.:laughing::laughing::laughing: I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
