Kubota L3240 JD 1025R
Just did the 400 hour service on my L3240 and have a little issue with my hydraulic filter. I crossed the OEM filter (HHTAO-37710) over to a NAPA gold 7098. Upon removal of the old filter, I noticed a magnet, so I cleaned it and put it in the new filter. The new filter is leaking because the magnet is too thick for the NAPA filter and isn't letting the O-ring ger enough "crush". Looking for opinions:
1. Go get a Kubota filter.
2. Take the magnet out and drive on.
2. Measure the difference in filters and surface grind the magnet to fit the NAPA filter.

Thanks

Buy a Kubota filter, magnet is there for a reason, it was engineered for that, why take a chance with your tractor?

Buy the Kubota filter, how much have you saved when it really comes down to it.

Are you sure the NAPA filter didn't come with a magnet, my Kubota filters do? That would explain why it doesn't fully seat. If it doesn't I'd just get a Kubota filter, of course I always use OEM filters anyway.

Last fall I bought 2 of each filter when NAPA had their big sale (JD, Kubota, Bad Boy, Yamaha, HD, Honda, GM, Ford...) and this is the first issue I have had with any of their filters. Going to mark the Kubota hydraulic filter off the list for this years trip to NAPA.
Made the trip to my local CNH/ Kubota dealer at lunch and picked up the correct filter (with magnet installed). Going to try the vacuum cleaner trick when I get home and swap filters, got another jug of oil just in case though.

orangeandgreen,

I've used several small rare earth (neodymium) magnets in place of the stock Kubota magnet. They are much stronger and take up less space. I thought I had pictures to describe, but couldn't find them. Along those lines here is a link showing how the same type of magnets were used on the drain plug http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/owning-operating/295384-kubota-b3300suhsd-maintenance-post3524969.html#post3524969

If you're interested in this possible solution, I'll look for the pictures... Just let me know. Found the picture.

I think you well see that is a hyd filter not a trans filter.

I'll try to remember to get the number off the Kubota Hydraulic filter for our L3940, probably the same filter, the parts guy sold us. He said it's the exact same filter without the magnet. He said just remove the magnet from the old filter, clean the magnet and put it on the new filter. The filter was about $15 cheaper. He had some of the Hydraulic reg. filters there that came in with broken magnets. He said he always checks everyone he sells with a magnet because he said you'd be surprised at how many come in broken.

The vacuum trick works great. Not zero mess, but very little total loss. Just need a pan to handle the drips and what is in the filter, and you are good to go.

Didnt think much about it at the time, but the parts man opened the filter box and checked the magnet. Guess broken magnets is a widespread issue.
Got the filters swapped and fluid topped off. Vacuum worked well.
