Just got 30 hrs on my new L3240 and I have to admit that the thing really burned some diesel the first 10-15hrs more than I thought. I had been using a ford 1710 (23hp) and figured it would burn more fuel than that one but it burned a lot more. Between 20 and 30 it must have got broke in becuz the thing doesn't burn much at all now? I even thought that the guage was messed up but its fine. It burns about 1/3 less now? Is this normal?
I believe your L3240 has the intelipanel with an electrical hourmeter which records hours when the key is turned on,recording the time in actual hours the engine is running. The type of usage(rpm's)makes no difference in the number hours recorded. You may have been doing some easier jobs at lower engine speed or load resulting in less fuel comsumed per recorded engine hour.
The Ford 1710 would have a conventional hourmeter where hours are accumulated at the rate of one hour of usage at PTO rpm-less rpm=more run time per hour registered.
Although one might expect power and fuel consumption to improve somewhat after break-in,I would tend to believe the hourmeter is misleading you as 1/3 less fuel is more than to be expected.Good Luck!
I have about 240 hours on my L3240 and find it is quite good on fuel.It burns a little less than about three liters of fuel per hour at around 2000 RPM.This is less than one American gallon which is about 3.8 liters.I never really noticed any difference in fuel consumption as the tractor gained hours.I had a BX 25 before this tractor.Although it used less fuel,it couldn't do nearly as much work per hour as the 3240.From reading reviews of the 3240 on this website other owners seem to be happy with the fuel consumption of this tractor.
I beleive that #2 is right- I have been watching the hr meter vs the fuel gauage so compared to the 1710s hr meter it is different. Either way I beleive it got better after the 1st 10 or so hrs. It is not bad on fuel at all now. You also have to throw in the gauge on that older 1710 might not have been the most accurate thing either- while the L3240 is pretty good..
My L2800 burns .7 gph at 2400 rpm with a 6ft brush hog, although not working real hard. The gauge does not move off full until it has used 2.5 gallons of a 9 gallon tank.
