Comparison L3240 to L4240

I didn't like the auto throttle until i adjusted the cable. I felt like it wanted to rev the motor up much higher than was needed as soon as you touched the pedal. A simple adjustment and it's much more to my liking.

Careful thought is a wise decision. There are all those darn fine lines between wants and needs. I am guilty as the next in having difficulty trying to figure out the difference.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I know what you mean about feeling it's lacking in power. I don't like to run mine much over 2000-2300 rpm's doing heavy loader work ,but if I need alittle more out of it, I'll crank it up some . I know the first time I used my pto (540) at around 2750 rpm's I was thinking no way . After calling the dealer and asking him , he said thats what these engines are made to run at high rpm's .
The more you play around with all the options they give you, the more you'll find out just how to get the most out of it.( I'll be an old man before I get it worked out)
I have a long hill that I go up and down once in awhile to go to the store and I to feel like it slows down more than I'd like going up. I like M range and switch down to low on the lever by the steering wheel if I need it , and I don't have a backhoe . I think you really have to look at your top speed in each one of your ranges to get an idea of just how fast you can go on even ground. ( without the backhoe)
Over all , I like the size. The more I use it , the more I'm able to find how to get what I need out of it.

I am pretty new to tractors. I use mine for clearing and grading and disking, so far. At first I did not like to run it over 1800 to 2000 rpm (540 is 2580).
But now I find myself leaving it a 2300 to 2400 for most all my work, and to 2500 on occasion. It sounds so smooth at 2500, I am not sure why I dont just run at that rpm all the time. I can tell a big difference in the power output.

I think you're on to something there. May be the design point. If all the harmonics quiet down at that RPM, then it is probably a good RPM to use for extended operation.

Glad to hear there is an adjustment to be made. That is one thing I will do on my 3540. Thanks for the tip.
