i have about 100 acres of pine trees that i need to mow between, the 35 hp seems plenty big for that job..also will bemoving some dirt, building up some roads, box blading, etc...i keep reading that bigger is better and god knows that is probably true, but i have about committed to the L3400..local dealer is giving me a good deal...i will be using the jd lx5 for bushogging and a bushog brand 5 foot box blade, obviously the 4400 would give me more hp...45 ho vs the 35hp...i honestly will probably will only use it 3-4 times a year for big-time bushoggin', rest of the time moving dirt and levelling ground..i just don't feel that i need something bigger right now..but honestly the 3400 looked kind of small when comparing it to the bigger toys on the dealers lot...(maybe i already have bigger tractor envy which i hear is pretty common)....do i really need something bigger????? thanks in advance..this site and the info on it is great!!!!

If you got a 4xxx model you would probably want 6-foot attachments - and that would be a little less maneuverable in the woods - it sounds like you have picked a good workable combination. If you someday decide to go bigger, you'll be able to get most of your money back when you sell. Kubotas hold their value very well. Hope this helps. Dick B

I have a 3400 and find it big enough for anything I do. I think you will appreciate it in the long run. It manuvers well through my timber and has enough power to bush hog my 63 acres. It sounds to me like you are on the right track. Bigger is not always better. We just tend to make ourselves think so.

have a L3400 and love it however if you have a hundred acres of timber it might be tough to do a lot of logging other then that its a great machine. It will do anything you ask it.

If your trees are spaced pretty tight, the L3400 and a 5 foot brush hog will probably be your best bet. It'll be more maneuverable than a larger unit.

If your tree spacing is on the order of 15 to 20 feet, go bigger with both tractor and 'hog as bigger will get the job done quicker and maneuverability shouldn't be as much of an issue.

I've got about 52 acres with probably half of it planted to white pine on 20' centers (so they won't kill each other). I'll be using a 45HP L4300 with either a 6' Woods Brush Bull or a Rossi 7' sickle bar mower this year. Been using an old 5 foot 'hog behind a Ford 4000 and covering the ground takes more time than I've got.

The sickle bar mower is sort of an experiment at this point, but am hoping it'll get the job done even quicker than the Brush Bull while using less fuel and keeping tractor out from under the trees. Only question I have is whether it'll stand up to this application.

You could hedge your bet by going to the L4400 but sticking with the 5' brushhog. The L4400 isn't a big tractor, but it does have a lot of HP for its size/weight. If you need the power later it'll be there. No HST though.

100 acres of trees is a lot of mowing even if only done 3 or 4 times a year.

I have a new unit with 12 hours of hard work on it. I've used it to dig out a driveway, move tons and tons of dirt, remove some stumps with the backhoe, etc. If you need to dig, make sure to get a toothbar. It has plenty of power and with R-4 tires is much more stable in digging and moving dirt that a bobcat. The hydraulics have been able to lift anything I can fill the bucker with. The backhoe won't break big roots, but yuo can chip away on them and dig around them. I love it!!
