L3400 cutter size

Hi Tom:

I'm very happy with the L3400. Bear in mind I only have about 3 hours mine - mostly trying to get accustomed to using a loader - turning the pile of manure over etc.

Nice machine at a very nice price. Lacks a few bells and whistles that I think I will be fine without. I don't need mid pto. Electrohydraulically activated PTO sounds cool but using the clutch to engage the PTO doesn't sound like much work to me either. Few other that would be nice to haves that can be found in the more expensive models from Kubota and the competition.

At the advice of my dealer, I put a 84" Bush Hog finish mower on my L3400.
Cuts well, but is a bit too heavy if mowing with a FEL attached.

That said, you must be careful if mowing without FEL. Some weight in the front end would be welcome when the mower is raised. 100-200 lbs should be fine.

The 84" Bush Hog is a bit heavier than the Kubota manual would like hanging off the 3pt, and when raised, takes a lot of weight off the front wheels.

A few weeks after my machine was delivered, the Kubota rep. was out at my farm looking at the jerky 3PT value (their service was impeccable) and he pointed out to me that the reason they brought out the L3400 as a basic tractor was because they found that any one looking at a 10 yr or so old machine with about the same HP was paying close to what they could price a new no frills machine at.

They hit the market dead on if you ask me. I was one of those guys looking for a 10 year old machine and most of what I could find was priced within $5K or so of the 3400 and had as many or fewer bells and whistles as the L3400.
