How much more are dealers charging for the HST over the gear? I'm going to guess in the neighborhood of $2k. In any event, does reliability factor in? I've heard various chatter about how the HST models aren't as reliable on this size of tractor, regardless of color.

My uses will be grading, blading driveways, medium-duty logging, stump digging (BH75), brush piling, and the like.

I'm 99.9% settled on gear unless someone can make a good argument. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Around here (SE Texas), the delta between Gear and HST is about $1400 to $1600. I decided on Gear over HST due to the price delta--I just couldn't justify that much money.

I don't know the price difference, but I am an engineer!

I have Kubota 3830DT - gears and shuttle. The price difference on the 3830 was about $1600. It seemed like a lot at the time, but in hindsight it's not that much.

After using this tractor for 16 months, I can see where the hydro would really be nice for forward and reverse work with a box blade or loader.

With hydrostat, you also get more range of speeds without changing the pto speed - great for mowing, tilling, etc.
I love my Kubota, but if I were to buy a new tractor today, I would get a HST or maybe a GST.

I also recommend a hydraulic top link or Top-N-Tilt - very handy.
