L3400 PTO Won't disengage

   / L3400 PTO Won't disengage #21
My procedure to disengage is to reduce the throttle to 2000 RPM. Then I depress the clutch and disengage the PTO at the exact same time. What this does is allow the implement to over drive the PTO for a short time and reduce the load on the cams so they are free to disengage. This has worked very well and I never have a disengage problem.

If there is no implement attached to the PTO it will probably not disengage without pulling on the lever as mentioned above.

Goldendan, is there any way you take photos of your "fix" to help the rest of with this PITA!! Thanks for your time and help.

Your L3010 might be a little different, is it HST? I find it harder sometime to get help from old threads, most of the posters disappear to for ever ever land or other posters make them mad and they're gone, so I consider a 4 year thread outdated when I only recognize 2 or 3 posters, then I ask the same question in a new thread then if I dont like their snide remarks I go to youtube then the dealer, last resort is redneck engineering...

PS, make sure you check in to the new poster thread location so you have a chance to win a brand new 40k tractor of your color, every new 100 members wins, paid by the administrators of TBN and members from Branson Mo.!!!!!!!!

OK so I know this is an old thread. I found it when researching my problem with the PTO not disengaging. I waited until my cable finally broke before looking into it. For awhile I have been able to disengage it by pushing on the cable after moving the lever to the disengaged position. What I found while replacing and adjusting the cable was that the lever the cable has to push against was hanging up. The spring around the lever shaft was not forceful enough to return it to the proper position. Mine would hang-up and click back into position with a slight push, almost as if a mechanical miss-alignment inside the gearbox. I read on-line that cleaning around and lubricating the shaft had fixed others dis-engagement problem. Mine appeared perfectly clean so I was skeptical. So while adjusting the cable I sprayed so WD-40 on it, and it worked, I was actually surprised. I have also read this was only a temporary fix. I noticed there was a small gap in the plate I had removed just ahead of the lever arm where I could fit the spray nozzle of the WD-40 can into. So if this is only a temporary fix I can now at least easily lubricate it the next time this occurs.
