Price Check L3400

Do you think $14,000 is good price for a 2008 L3400HST with 70 hrs? Has FEL and shed kept but has never been serviced (since purchase). I figure that is about $4,400 less than a new L3200 (with $2,000 incentive). I do not need the added HP . . . and a little concerned it has not been serviced.

If it were me, I would purchase the new model. My L4400 came with 2 year warranty. Just a thought.

It is your decision to make. I mentioned the warranty issue because of "Peace of Mind". You never know.

I honestly don't know about the price, but you can sure buy some neat implements with $4400, I personally would be seriously considering it. I wouldn't worry about no service at 50 hours, I'd just do one myself, it's not hard.

I've bought four new Kubotas and one used, warranty doesn't mean anything to me.

No, warranty is not worth that much to me.

Just for reference, I paid 15k for a L3800DT w/FEL and less than 10 hrs on it. This was last December. Have been price increases since then though.

My next negotiation pitch is to ask the seller to deliver the used machine to a dealer and have it serviced and checked out and I would pay for it (out of the purchase price). That way I know problems found will be fixed and I know it was properly serviced (although a bit late). When I tested it out, there was a FEL hydrolic leak, which would be fixed. I do appreciate your comments. I thought it would be an easier decision but the "no service" after nearly 5 years and relatively high price (he started at $15,000) compared to a new one gave me doubts.

Well, used tractors seem to be bringing pretty good money right now, but the hydraulic leak would be a concern; tough call.

It depends where the leak is. It could just be a loose hose fitting. If it's a cylinder that would bring up the question of what did they do with the machine to cause the leak. I'm in the camp of buying the used and spend the extra $ on implements. Chances are the machine is just fine. It sounds like a good idea to have dealer check the machine if the seller agrees. I bought two tractors used. Changed all fluids and filters on both, regardless of hours, just for peace of mind. No problems to report.

I recently bought a 2008 l2800 with 108 hrs on it, single owner, garaged all its life - great condition. This came with a HST, FEL, 4WD, geamore 60" box scraper, and a 5' razorback bush hog. That was listed at $15K and I ended up at $13750. Out here we pay a bit more. It was about 7K less than a new one (including the 2K cash off) with the same attachments.

Your deal looks pretty good.

i bought a new l3800 payed 17500 then traded it in with 35 hrs on it i only got 16500 for iti owned it 2.5 months i would get a new tractor if you buy used you might get a money pit best of luck to you

So case245, I have to ask why did you trade your L3800? Certainly it was not a "money pit".

I would definately get a new L3200. The base price with loader is around $15,500 to 16,500, and I would imagine with the warranty you would have a better piece of mind about anything unexpected going wrong. I know you said you dont need the extra horse power, but a L3800 is about 17,500 with loader and you really cant have "too much" horse power in my opinion. I looked at used ones before I made the choice to buy a new one, and I only found that there was about a $2000 difference in the prices,(used-vs-new) so it only made sense to get a new one that no one has tampered with or abused.

PappaSmurf, I wished our base price with loader around here was $15,500. That would make the decision easier. Our price for L3200 with loader is $17,400 (pre-tax). Since I plan to also use this with finish mower, the weight with the higher hp can become an issue in the "yard".

Prices here are around 1.5-2k more than that on those two models.

turfgrass no it was not a money pit it had 30 hrs on it i bought it new the fel would not lift hieght enough an not enough weight

Sometimes the warranty really is worth getting. In the first 2 years of owning my L3400 I had the right side lift cylinder seal on my FEL replaced (leaking) and the tractor was split in two to free up a sticking clutch spline. The seal repair wasn't expensive, but the split job would have been. Still, $4400 is a lot of money. The lack of maintainance wouldn't really bother me, as long as I did it as soon as I got the machine. It's 3 years overdue for a coolant change, and 4 years overdue for the first oil change. I seem to recall it's 50 hours or 1 year. Definitely change the hydraulic fluid and filters too, it's been sitting there building condensation for quite a while.
