L3400 ?

L3400 will power a 6' PTO-powered Roto-tiller easily. Too light to pull a Disc Harrow effective for primary tillage.

Roto-tillers and Disc Harrows both mix soil. Go with a forward rotation Roto-tiller.

Your ground must be a lot nicer than mine. My 5' tiller taxes my L3200 hard. There is no way I'd have been able to run it with a gear tranny. I had to inch along barely touching the HST go pedal at times. It did the job fine, but had constraints you had to cater to.

You could pull a disc with an economy L, but it would have to be small to maintain the speed you need for discing. You could disc a thousand acres too, but it would take weeks & likely a spare spine or 2. A tiller is a better option & will do a few acres a couple times easily behind an economy L (personal experience). You need a bigger machine to do more than a couple acres a couple times though.

I have a L3700.. basically the same as your 3400 and the newer 3800. ..if I were on 300 acres... I would want a Grand L with a suspension seat.. the 3400 is a great basic, no frills machine that will do almost anything you ask it too.. but more options would make it a more pleasant experience. The loader is a 463 and not terribly strong. I shimmed mine and it now lifts about 1400 pounds including whatever is attached to the SDQA. The 3PH is jerky beyond belief and the turn buckle tensioner are Mickey Mouse. But it's a basic tractor.

FWIW, my L3400 (bought used with 500 hours, no idea what "year" it is) does not have a jerky 3 point. I have a 400lb weight box on it most of the time, and it will go up or down just fine. I has tempted to shim my 463 loader, as well, but IRRC the measured pressure was right at the spec., and I just decided to leave it alone since I seldom max out its lifting ability.
