This may sound stupid, but how big is an L3400? I know a guy who is selling a 2005 (35hrs) with the quick attach loader. a box blade and 6 ft bushhog for $4600.00 (long story but it is a client of mine and he needs to liquidate). I have agreed to buy because the price is great. Can I use that to mow my 1.5 acre lawn with a finish mower or is that ridiculous? I figure if nothing else I can sell it.

The L3400 isn't small, but it isn't a monster either. You'd have to use a rear finish mower, as it doesn't have a mid-pto, but many seem to prefer the pull behind mower anyway, and they are cheaper.

http://www.kubota.com/f/products/L2800.cfm (the 2800/3400 and 4400 are all the same frame, diff engine)

I suppose you could use this to mow 1.5 acres, but it depends on trees and planting beds and such if you would really want to. With a RFM, you might be doing a lot of backtracking.

I'd sell it, personally. I'm sure you could more than double your money.

A very good price for a new L3400 tractor and attachments you described would be around $19,000, if it s HST, or $17500 if it is gear. At $4600, many would think you were taking advantage of your client. He could stand on a street corner advertising it on a piece of cardboard for $10,000 and he would sell it in minutes.

Sounds a bit like conflict of interest here. But I'm not a lawyer, so what do I know. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Worst case scenario if it doesn't work out for your lawn, sell it make a big profit, and buy something else.
