you said in your first post it was behind the front axle, now it the rear. sounds like we need the pic to sort it out.have been scratchin my head on this one and i still cant figure out why a zerk is any where near the hydraulics. somethings not right here...

Hutch, please do get some photos so we can figure this out. I just don’t see how a high pressure hydraulic system could be contaminated through a grease fitting. My old brain just can’t come up with a situation where hydraulic fluid and grease would be allowed to mix by design.

Sorry been out of town, and now I am at work. I will go off shift Wed. morning and will post some pics. The Zirk is just behind the front axle and is pointing basically at the left front tire.

I dont understand this at all either. Seems like if I blew out a hydraulic seal with grease it would then leak hydraulic fluid. I'm guessin the grease is keeping it from leaking maybe? It is definately in the system though, just on the low pressure side. I am going through hydraulic filters quickly. One at one hour and another at about three hours so far (at about $30 bucks a pop). When I pulled all the (four) trans/hyd fluid drain plugs the one nearest the zirk had grease on it.

I hate to keep running the tractor with it in there but......to get to where the grease is at looks to be a MAJOR tear down. Any other sugessions?

Will post a pic soon as I can. Thanks for the replies so far. Hutch

When I came across this I could not help but see if such was possible.
After looking at the parts manual I will have to say yes that pumping enough grease into the fitting at the back side of the front axle on the L35 could find it's way into the transmission and thus into the hydraulic filters, etc.

The 4WD drive shaft is sealed so well I do believe that grease forced by pressure from a grease gun could travel up the metal covers and past the oil seal and enter into the transmission area.
The oil seal was to keep oil at no pressure in. Not to keep grease under pressure out.

Look at the picture and see if you agree.

Yes I THINK that is the grease zirk in question. Sorry I dont have a picture yet, I'm still at work (we work 3 consecutive 24's/week), I will post one as soon as I can take one and figure out how to post.

It is just behind the front axle and it LOOKS like it feeds that front driveshaft tube.

I think I was just being a frustrated ****** and I pumped that thing FULL of grease with a cordless grease gun (yes, the ones that pump at around 7500psi). So I wasnt able to FEEL the resistance increasing before it pushed past the seal. I was just frustrated and like an IDIOT I kept my "finger on the trigger" waiting to see where the grease was coming out. Which of course I couldnt see because it was coming out in my transmission case.

Sure appreciate the replies.........Hutch

Happy Thanksgiving all,

Here is a picture of the grease zirk behind the front axle on my L35 that I overgreased (ALLOT). I figure the grease traveled down the front driveline tube, through a low pressure oil seal (as was mentioned) and right into my hydraulic system. AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

So how many squirts does the manual recomend there? If it is not specified how many do you think should go in?

Well.....I didnt see any mention of it in the manual....I guess I should check more carefully? It was just another grease zirk as far as I WAS concerned.......but I guess I THINK somewhere around 1-1/4 tubes LESS of grease should go in there?
