I don't believe this tractor was "bound up". I believe the 4wd had not been disengaged in a very long time. The sliding gear in the trans uses detent balls to hold it into or out of 4wd. I believe the detent ball had worn itself into a groove that made it appear to be stuck. The OP understood this and to make sure that's what was going on drove it around in the dealer lot long enough trying to disengage that he finally got it loose. As long as it's used as it's supposed to be, i.e., engaged when needed, disengaged when not needed, things should be fine. He did good!!!! :)

Yes, that's what I did. Took about 45 seconds LOL. Works fine now.

This is a very common condition on L series. The shaft has an o-ring on it inside the case to keep oil from leaking out. Problem is part of the shaft is out side of the o-ring but still inside the rear axle center housing where moisture can lay and stick shaft. Go around your tractor periodically and spray a little penetrating oil on all the shafts where they enter the case. Work the shaft back and for a few times. I run into this several times a year, customers are very happy to find out they really did not break their baby.

Now that you've had it for a while, how do you like it? I especially want to know how you like the Glide Shift Transmission.

I' like it a lot. She needs a little love, some sloppy parts like the bucket lever, etc but other than those few things it works good. Honestly it's not much different and maybe even better then the last hydro I had (NH TC 30). Take off in third, hit the gas pedal, rev it up, let off a little, bang into fourth and so on. Just slip right through the gears, pretty cool. Forward to reverse and back is easy to. I think it may better than the hydro because I can go from for low (3rd) to high (8th) in about 15 seconds or so. Down shifting is just as easy. It's like a hydro because it's pretty much automatic and the shuttle shift. Like hydro with a third (gear) lever and you use your hands more.

Did that make any sense? I just like getting through the gears so fast. Plus l like that I can go from say sixth to third, skip right past fifth and fourth. Seems like I a can really move that tractor around in a hurry.

Trying to clean new to us property up. They had a pile of broken bricks, cinder blocks and wood scraps piled up in front of the barn, WTH? Look at all that crap next to the barn...

I test drove a Kubota GST once and was really impressed. Kind of a hybrid of Hydro and Shuttle. Fully synchro, clutchless straightline shifting shuttle. I do a lot of bush hogging, and I always thought that would be perfect for matching speed to load. I was also impressed with the smoothness. I think it is Kubota's best kept secret.

You got an unbelievable deal on that tractor. I'm guessing you are still smiling. Does it have a bucket level indicator? If not, I can post some pics of mine. It helps make you a better operator.

The L3600 GST is a good tractor. Have one in the shop for oil leak now. neighbor asked for me to check why he lost all Hydraulic oil overnight 7.5 gal.
Found the 4 Whl. shaft to front end the cause due to bushing into transmission had slipped forward 1 inch allowing the oil pass thru seal. But the Front End housing was cause the problem.
The axle Front end case boss and bracket had close to 1/2 inch play where supposed to be friction fit. .025 mm So a total front housing and Bosses all because never adjusted the rocking force .
This wasn't Kubota's problem just not reading the book and checking areas suggested to check.

Exactly what I was trying to say. No or doesn't have one but I'd love to see yours. Oh yeah, I'm smiling!
