Thanks for the comments!
I hear you on duals and your attachment information is interesting. I'm going to spread the track, fill the tires and feel my way around the place. Duals won't do any good if one drops the tires off the edge of a 60 degree bank.
This afternoon I assembled the bush hog (60"), sorted out the hitch and cut some tall stuff that had accumulated. Wow! I looked back at a five foot swath and just smiled.
My dish is already narrow at the hub, wide at the rim, which I view as correct for the max width out of the dish. The rim however is mounted on the inside of the dish. On the inside of the rim there are two sets of "lugs", one closer to the tire, one further out. The only adjustment I have left is to move the tire to the outside of the dish and use the widest set of lugs. I could always be wrong but will know for sure when I wrestle the tires/rims/dish. At any rate, I'm not filling the tires until I get that sorted out, which will be soon!
The driveshaft to gearbox cover is not as pictured in the mower manual. It is instead a very cheesy plastic arrangement that was already split when delivered. It has a "hatch" on top with only one fastener so it flops where it pleases. Thanks Bush Hog for the economy cover. I would have preferred the old metal "hat channel" but it really doesn't matter. I promise to keep my neck tie away from the drive shaft!
About the two cheesy little chains attached to the plastic drive shaft cover: I attached the one at the PTO to something stationary but it came free. The other, at the gear box I didn't attach. The cover rotated a bit and wrapped both chains around itself. My current opinion of these "units" is so what and I would likely clip them both off unless sound advice indicates otherwise.
Photos will be taken, over the weekend. Between my $ project and getting the tractor up here, explored and implements set up, I've had no time for the camera.
