well ... after almost 2 years I'm FINALLY at the 50 hour mark ... actually a luittle more but I was waiting (or rather, not waiting) for the filters and oil to come from Carvers (they were very fast!).
OK ... so get the tractor ready to start working on it ... and ... superwife can't find the manual. Superwife always rails on me about my piles of manuals and papers (which is just like my office but they're smart enough to leave me alone) ... and decides ... several years ago, that she's the master of all the bopoks and manuals. So how the heck am I supposed to keep the 'bota happy when I haven't a clue where anything is!!!!!

Can one of you gents with an L3710 ... and an actual manual ... help a guy out?
It looks to me like the oil filter is in a real awkward spot on the right side of the tractor ... looks like you have to almost take the bottom tin off? And it looks as though oil is going to run all over because theres sheet metal under the filter?
But I don't readily see a drain plug ... where the heck is it?
How much oil do I put back in after I get it drained out? (Carver's sent the engine oil so I know I have the right stuff ... but do I pour it all in or ...?
Then we get to the hydraulics. The fella at Carver's said they don't change out the hydraulic fluid ... just the filter ... but he'd be happy to sell me 17 gallons at $11 a gallon if I really wanted it. I figured if they didn't change it ... I'd be cheap and follow their lead. (good, bad or indifferent choice?) .... but I do have the filter at hand. It looks to me like the filter is on the same side as the oil but further back ... almost where the hydraulic connections are for the FEL. Yes? Do I have to drain any, some or all the hydraulic to take off the filter?
What else do I need to do at 50 hours beside engine oil, oil filter, hydraulic filter?
Help?!!!

too bad that common sense ain't

Two years for the first oil change? Wow wish I could last that long between changes.

I'm sort of surprized that no one has replied to this message as of yet. Anyone out there????

Wingnut -- My Clementine is an L3010 so may be a little different, but if you send me a fax # privately I could copy and fax the appropriate pages to you. As I recall, although the engines are different (3 vs 4 cyl, etc), the location of various filters and drain points is pretty much the same.

Wingnut,

Send me your fax number, I'll get you a copy of the Grand L3710 owner's manual tomorrow.

BTW, my dealer (Chappell in NH) suggested doing the 50 hr. service after 1 year, even if you haven't reached 50 hrs. I wonder if that really makes sense?

Joe, thanks .... already had some email correspondence with another member (I assume he wishes anonymity) and he's sending me a spare copy of an L3710 manual that I can use until mine reappears as mysteriously as it disappeared.

Gordon ... I was actually shocked that it took me this long to make 50 hours ... thought that I was using it a fair bit ... but I will have to admit that the dry summers have kept the pasture maintenance needs pretty low. And I figure this girls a bit heavy to use on the lawn so I do that with the little 16.5 hp lawn tractor.
I should have done the 50 hour sooner ... but everytime I talk to my local dealer he says "why?"
Of course, my local dealer also wasn't too interested in making money either. I had my wife call over several times to get an estimated price on the 50 hour ... and never got a reply. So I finally said ... heck ... I'll find time to do it myself.

Boondox ... there is life out there ... even for us 3710 owners. As usual the board members are quick to reply (but there's less of us Grand L guys out here than the BX crowd). Also, until I get the manual I can't say with certainty ... but I seem to remember that the '37 is a 5 banger.

Thanks, everyone, for the comments ... as has been said many times previously ... this is a great place to hang out!

I'm sorry, I came in late. I have a L4610 and would share/email any pages to you if you think they would help.

Patrick

P.S. If anyone is reading this and contemplating buying a new Kubota. I recommend that you negotiate the best price and then if you want to buy it, tell the dealer you'll take it if he gives you the 50 hour service for free.
