Buy from the dealer a hour away and make the local dealer do the warranty work. He is contractually bound to do so. Ken Sweet

Disagree with this statement. True he is bound to do the warranty works but has the right to do it when he sees fit.If you have any problems take it back to where you bought the tractor and keep a good relation with that dealer. No dealer likes the fact you bought somewhere else and then bring the problems to them. JMHO

Sorry But I agree with Ken on this one, Buy from the guy a hour away and take it to the local to do the service and warranty work.

Most dealers treat there service and sales departments as 2 different groups with in the main company. So if the sales group is a bunch of bone heads the guys in the shop suffer, so they might be much better group to work with after the sale since they need to make money on service and might want to make up for what the twits out front have screwed up and chased off. :)

But then again it could be all around they are just a bad group. :)

...So take it for what its worth...

As one whose Kubota dealerships are all an hour and much more away, I don't consider that an undue hardship and that is what "local" means up here. :)

Go with the price and go with your gut. How you are treated is very important. Also inspect the parts counter and have a chat with the setup guy or chief mechanic, if you can, and get a sense for things. Service means more than the sale. It means setup and delivery too.

In short, an hour away isn't too awful bad, really.

I can tell you guys from personal experience, that if the servicing department puts you off for a unreasonable length of time,a quick call to Corporate will change his tune quickly. Refusing to service is grounds for cancelling a product dealership line. Ken Sweet

I agree, I'd do the hour away in a heart beat if I got warm and fuzzies and better price before I'd do the close guy that doesn't seem to have any give or trading personality. Seems no incentive to do close guy other than being closer. I've rarely needed any warranty work but the few times I have were done without any problems. I think only one of the 12 have needed back to the dealer issue. The others were give me the part or bring it in and they would screw it on.

Didnt say he would refuse the service said he could do the job when he saw fit. As long as he has equipment to work on he does not have to push the warranty work ahead and take care of his regular customers first and push the warranty work to the end of the line. Just saying if he buys from the dealer an hour away he would prob be better off taking any warranty work back to that dealer and letting them do it. If he didnt like the att. of the sales dept he prob wont be happy with the service side either under those conditions.

No matter which dealer he would take it to for service, I doubt, he would be put in front of anyone else waiting for service? That would not be ethical. Ken Sweet

Wasnt talking about service i was talking about warranty. Besides if he felt good enough to buy from the other dealer then he should also take the tractor there for warranty and service to put the money in that dealers hand(the one who took care of him) instead of the dealer that didnt take care of him. And a thing called customer loyalty goes along way. If a customer buys anything from me i will go out of my way to insure he is happpy with that product and will bend over backwards to fix anything that might go wrong.

LOL unfortunatly we all dont live in the land of ethics. I have purchased 3 mini exs 3 skidloaders and a l48 over the last 10 years from a rather large cnh kubota dealer in the dc area. I sold my company and was looking to buy my l3540 for personal use. I did some shopping and my dealer was way out there. During "friendly" negotiations the owner did say this. "If you want to buy that machine from **** tractor, then you might want to drive it back there when it breaks. Now you know i'll always take care of your stuff, just as soon as i finish working on the customers units that purchased here.". He ended up still being 900 high but when i have problems, they send out their repair truck, sometimes offer a loaner and "overlook" some details in order to help me out. Say what you want about what people "should" do in a perfect world but in reality it is up to the dealer to decide how he wants to handle you. Not saying it wont get fixed, just dont expect red carpet treatment. This is all assuming your local dealer knows you are price shopping though. For example i bought my tracker bass boat from a hole in the wall dealer and thier mechinic had no business working on a toaster let alone an optimax, so i now go to a local bass pro shops service center and explained the catastrophies, told them i was a new loyal customer and so far they have been great and treat me like I bought it there.
