L3830, comin\' soon to a \"farm\" near me!

Thanks to everyone for your great and helpful information /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I can move over to the owning / operating catagory of threads. This is a great site and to all of you new folks out there looking at buying your first tractor I can recommend highly the "Tractor Book" (download) advertised and sold on this site. I have been driving tractors since I was "knee high to a grasshopper" but the compacts are "new" to me. My experience has been on the larger "farm" tractors (Oliver RowCrop 88 and International Harvester 760) on a couple of our farms(Alaska and Arkansas) between 100 and 200 acres. The book is full of good information and the folks here on this site (that is you!) have been just as helpful and informative. There is nothing quite like the comments from the folks who are "doing it" /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Thanks to all of you I have decided on the Kubota L3830 (w/o cab), L723 Loader w/ hd bucket, bolt on edge, quick 'tach and Woods B9000 'hoe, R4 tires w/ tubes filled and HST. I started out looking at the L3130 and over the span of a month went through the range of B7800, B2910, L3830 GST L35, L48, back to L3130 GST, (also during this time looked seriously at NH TC35 and TC40 and D models). I spent half a day "test driving" a '86 Ford 1910 w/ 1200 hours (was amazed what a tired 4X4 compact [really think it had more than 1200 hours] diesel tractor could do with 30hp) and 3 days on my brother-in-law's Bobcat 743 (that convinced me that I will be very pleased with the HST over the GST. I am very satisfied with my choice after the experiences on these smaller rigs. I am confident that the L3830 will handle the jobs on my small (6.5 acres) plot here in N.H. with relative ease and comfort. I expect this will be a long term relationship and am looking forward to teaching my grandson to drive it when he is ready. Thirty years from now I will still be satisfied that I made the right decision /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif! I am anxiously awating the arrival (the dealer here in NH has it in stock but is in a crate and will be built by next Monday (or sooner). Will my big grin fade before then? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think NOT!

Thanks again to all of you who had great advise and comments!

Steve

PS Will see you on the rest of the Forum posts!

Re: L3830, comin\' soon to a \"farm\" near me!

Steve, my L3830 HST, R4's, top and tilt and one extra set of remotes for the rippers on my boxscraper or other hydraulic implement, LA723 with HD bucket comes today. I have driven it a already and have to say that even having driven tractors for many years, I was very impressed, this one is really the smoothest one yet and by a long shot. My L48 while smooth, was not as smooth as this 30 series. This will be the smallest tractor I have ever owned but have rented much smaller and have found that size is not nearly as important as I would have thought. With 4WD, compacts have really become a very valuable tool doing things that the old Massey and Ford 2WD tractor loaders could not do. I think your going to be quite impressed by the way it drives, the speed of the loader and the ease and layout of the controls. The bigger HST pedal is great as well. Enjoy it as much as I will mine. With all the folks buying L3830's, we might just have as many owners as the BX'ers, naw no way, that'll never happen! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Rat...

I hope you'll spend some of your non-seat hours writing here about your new rig. What size and type of mowing equipment do you plan to use with it? Dick B

Re: L3830, comin\' soon to a \"farm\" near me!

Dick, I have a 72" boxscraper with hydraulic rippers, a 84" finish mower, a 80" brush mower.

Shane, I did not go with the factory TnT. The factory setup has 3 levers that occupy the 3 slots behind the position control to the right of the seat. I went with the dealers setup because it is less costly and actually prefer the valve up higher. I will have to take a picture of the setup they make up for all of their Kubotas, its well done. Cost is about $1300 for everything. That includes the 2 hydraulic cylinders (Gannon), 3 spool valve, 6 quick disconnects, all of the hoses and the bracket.

Rat...

P.S. you'll see by the picture that the little guy doesn't really care that is't not the L48.

Re: L3830, comin\' soon to a \"farm\" near me!

KYTractor,
is the tractor book worth it?

I guess that's a personal opinion, my opinion is that it's worth it. $25 isn't much these days, especially when it is towards my education and a tidbit that may save my life or that of my son, daughter, grandson, etc.... The book is geared towards educating before you buy but has plenty of good info that will always be handy for me to reference as well as many, many, many websites for general reference in my rural setting use.

Hope this helps,

Re: L3830, comin\' soon to a \"farm\" near me!

Dick B,
what type of mowing....

The only mowing I will do initially is bush-hogging, we use a 6 foot walk behind self powered finish mower that we enjoy using and get some exercise at the same time.

Re: L3830, comin\' soon to a \"farm\" near me!

RaT:

The "little guy" can use the cruise lever instead of the foot pedal.

I see your rear valves, that would'nt work on my 5030, I'd have to open the back window to get to them. I have the factory remotes mounted.

Rat...

Thanks for the comments, now I am really droolin' cause I'm sitting inside while it's raining outside and all I can think about is getting my hands on the new L3830. It's a good thing it's not here yet, I just stuck my brothers Bobcat to the top of the tracks while I was stumpin' because it is so wet here! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif If it had been the new 'Bota I would have been really bummed. It took 2 hours of jacking and digging to get it out. (picture attached)
