Thanks for all the replys, I plan on using it on 5 ac in the desert, to spread dirt ,gravel, horse crap, and just keep up the place and move dirt sticks weeds maybe some snow once every 5 years, also some fel work and some scraper stuff, I guess I made a mistake when I said it was hst on the nh , Its not but I don't know what to call it. It has low med high on the left fender and a forword and reverse next to steering wheel and also next to the steering wheel is the 1-4 gear selector,

Also the dealer seems nice and Is real close he said 21000.00 for the tractor and 16a loader is this a good deal ?

Sorry for rambling on but I only want to buy this once

That would be a shuttle. The LMH on the left fender is a range selector. You end up with 12 forward/reverse speeds. We have a NH 2120 with a 12X12 shuttle. You find a couple of gears and typically use them. For many folks, and it depends on the tractor, medium range in 1 or 2 for loader work, for digging with the tractor I usually drop into one of the lowest gears and for traversing or on the road, I will use high range in 1st or 2nd. You don't really find yourself shifiting gears to much once under way even though it is quite easy to do. Try the GST on the Kubota, it is slick.

Uh-oh... That kinda levels the playing field. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif If the NH is a shuttle-shift and the Kubota is a GST, I think you're talking about a strict roll of the dice to determine which one. Check the specs, check what makes you feel best on layout, consider your dealers and the "deal," and go for it. Whatever you decide will be what's best for you. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yep, blue without HST, now I would go orange. I was just wondering if you wanted to save money or do you prefer gear. After using both I am totally spoiled on HST.

I think I would jump ship to get a HST regardless of color. Our HST spoiled me big time.

Well I'm a little gunshy of the hst I have a ingersoll-rand back hoe that is hst and ive had a few problems with it like when it gets hot (the oil) it runs like crap and if you want to do any thing you have to be at wot, That was the only reason I thought I should get a geared unit any more thoughts? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have yet to hear of folks with Kubota, Deeres, New Hollands or Kioti's have this issue. I simply cannot get my Kubota L3830 with a hydrostatic tranmission to get the oil hot. I have dragged a boxscraper with the rippers down up hills (thats about all I have) on days over 100 degrees all day and I simply cannot get the oil hot enough to the point where I cannot grab a hold of the hydraulic oil filters. I check every now and then just to see how hot things are getting. My performance does not change from start to finish, at least, not noticeably so.

I am a devout gear guy, but I want to say one thing about the heating of the hydro oil. It would take a long hard pull (read very hard pull as in using all of the hp available) to heat the oil enough to do damage. As anytime the implement is lifted, that is a cooling cycle. Most if not all hydro owners here don't have that hard of pulls and those that do, have a very short hard pull cycle with the cooling cycle (turn around) being of the same length or greater. That is why most hydro owners here never, never over heat the oil. Having said the above, it is up to your preference and your preference only, if you fall into the above.

I would suspect you are right. Of course, if your doing long, long hard pulls, your probably going to be a bit more productive with something other then a compact and with that of course you will be using some type of gear tractor no doubt. If you are using a compact to do your farm, I would agree, a gear tractor would be the more logical, sensible choice. Now, how many folks at TBN does that actually apply to? I suspect a handful at best. No doubt though, if you like a gear type tractor, I would certainly think that that is the most important criteria you need to meet.

Rat,
This was just to try to put it to rest that heat was a problem for most hydro compacts. What is the problem? It seems as though I stepped on your toes or something. I was agreeing with you that heat wouldn't be a problem.
