L39 Backhoe problems

Thanks for all the help guys. I think it's clear that I have some guck (technical term) in the valves or spools. I have a good friend that is a spectacular HD mechanic that works just down the road that has agreed to tear in to it for me. His tools and experience will all but guarantee results.

I know many of you would encourage me to tackle it myself, and if I had more time and less resources (like the above mentioned conveniently located professional) I'd be inclined to. The feeling of dread of losing a tiny spring or clip buried in one of these assemblies and not even having the experience to realize that I had done so is less than appealing.

Thanks again. I'll let you know how it all turns out.

Korydz,
What was the solution to this problem.. Im having a similar issue. Got a low hour L39 from a used equipment dealer, it sat on the lot for a while. I have no history on the machine.
My backHoe is weak also, I do not own a pressure gauge set, but I can either borrow or buy what ever I need. It seems to have a little more power than my allmand 325. I was expecting a lot more.
I have one issue I can describe with more detail. If I extend the dipper all the way it doesn't bog the engine, and I can hear the relief (I think) going Pst Pst Pst Pst, and the dipper kinda sits there and bounces. Then retract all the way, it acts suddenly like there's air, so after about 5 seconds of holding the control (dipper retract) maxed out it will finally bog down the engine and I can hear the psssssssssssssss of the relief. Id like to know What the fix was for your problem, maybe mine is similar.
Anyone else out there that wants to chime in would be great. I am somewhat experienced on a back hoe, But My little gasser allmand never gave any hydraulic problems other than leaks and busted hoses. I am plenty handy with mechanics, Just a total newbie to hydraulics.
So, if there is a low tech way to get started to test boom, dipper, and bucket functions for power is the first question to get me pointed in the right direction, then I can move into getting the tools to do proper pressure testing on any identified weaknesses.

We ended up replacing a couple of the valves in the stack of valves that control the hoe. That was years ago now and it has worked perfectly since.

You might need to send the valve bank out to a hydraulic shop for testing and evaluation.

Thanks for the quick reply, I did notice it was a 5 year old thread, but your problem seems quite similar to mine.
Sucks that we can have bad valves on 500 hour tractors. Sounds expensive, especially when I already mortgaged the house just to buy the darn thing.
I spent the money cuz I thought kubotas were supposed to not have many of these problems.
Thanks again

If you don't mind saying, what year is the L39, how many hours does it have, and how much did you have to give for it?.

Wow, that’s very close to my numbers. I can’t remember the exact year, but the hours and price are pretty much what I paid about 5 years ago in Canada.

I’m really happy with the size and capabilities. I have a BX2660 and a full size Deere 310C backhoe. This fits right in between.

Just trying to make a comparison.
I bought a 2006 L48 with 250 hours, from orig owner, in June.

Has nice features.
Hyd. SSQA, 3rd function (with diverter), 3 rear remotes, hyd. thumb, 3pt hitch, PTO, QA hoe bucket, 11ft. dig.
It was more than I wanted to pay at $32K, but it is barely broken in, and I am a 79 year old guy,.... so it is my last shot.

Bought new EA forks, and will order MS Attachments E-Series root rake (grapple) next month.
Have repainted wheels and fenders, with more to go (14 year old machine).
I hate "MARY KAY PINK" !!!!!

Im Hoping I can get to your level of satisfaction. I really like the unit, But the hoe is unimpressive so far. I did find this evening that one directional lever wasn't fully seated, which helped and made more questions. Thank for your input. Do you do any stump digging or tree pushing with your L39?
