Hello, I have spotted a L4150 for auction. Ihave never had anyhing to do with a kubota before. It states "front driveshaft removed, and steering needs work". Can any one tell me why these parts fail, ie weak, old age etc?

I would guess lots of hours and not much grease. Many a good tractor has went to an early grave due to dry grease fittings. :(

Thanks KubotaGlocker.

Tractor routinely operated without a counter-balance on the Three Point Hitch while doing heavy FEL work.

I would check the engine and transmission fluids at once. People that fail to counter-balance are unlikely to keep up on routine maintenance.

How many hours show on the engine meter?

Another possibility is a front end collision. Or several front end collisions.

The L4150 was a very robust model - failures in the front drive were very rare, usually from gross abuse. Removing the front driveshaft would mask a broken gear that makes noise when shifted into 4wd. A steering issue could be bent or broken tie rods, pitman arm, etc, or failed hydraulic steering box ($$). I'd guess the bids will be very low. Pretty important to have a close look unless it's under $2-3k and you're adventurous. BTW the hour meter cable on these routinely breaks at around 1000 hours - can only estimate actual hours from overall condition.
