This is how my MX-4700 looks with the loader down, 3 point all the way on the bottom and all pressure relived from the system. Obviously the level goes down as loader or 3 point is raised.

If You know you have lost some hydraulic oil... the level will be well below the sight glass. You can check if this is the case by placing the loader all the way down , and then curl to dump... that will raise the front of your tractor and the fluid will go to the rear, you will eventually raise the front enough that you'll see the fluid level... Your total capacity will be a round 10 gallons when it is drained and empty.

Does overfill cause damage or just a mess? Is there a way for the xs to go out besides the filling spout?

Does overfill cause damage

Yes it can cause damage... the axles and any gearing is in the hydraulic fluid... if it is too full it can churn up the air above the oil and that will cause the fluid to foam... foaming hydraulic oil in the pump can cause cavitation damage ... your loader and any other cylinders will have air in them that will continue to circulate through the system just to return to the sump area and refoam ... foamed oil will Not shed heat like it should so the hydro system will run markedly Hotter...
You can carefully remove a drain plug and catch the overfilled oil in a clean container, replace the drain plug and recheck the oil level...

JC,

Wow, I just wish my tractor's rear end was so pretty. Thanks for the peak!

Thank you for the info. The fluid overflowing from fill spout seemed foamy. I had driven the tractor about 30 ft and back and cycled the loader. Should I drain the system and replace with new fluid?
Thanks-
JC

Me too:D it was the second day I had a tractor and I was checking things out and taking panoramic pics of tractor and every and all components. The transmission does not come completely full on the crate from japan. I was there when they put my tractor together. Dealer did not cycle on/off the loader enough and they just topped off the hyd fluid and it did show the oil level in the middle. Next day I messed around with the rig to check things out and realized I was low on oil. I called them and went out and picked a gallon and had to just about use the whole gallon to get it to right level.

Kenny: As it was mentioned, foaming can be a real danger for all the reason elaborated above. I'd dump the oil in to a clean container probably a bit more than I need. Run the machine and cycle the loader to get all potential air out, let it settle good and use the dumped oil to top off about middle of the site glass or a skosh above it. if you have foaming then you should see some tell tale sign looking at the sight glass.

No need to Replace the oil... Just drain it like JC-jetro is planning to do... then use the oil you drained in a clean container & bring it to full.. will work out great...

Thanks for all your help. Just drained it, found the dye at JDeere, and filled it up again. this time it went much better.
Thank you!
