I AM REPLACING A MASSEY 135. I THOUGHT I WANTED A L4400 BUT THE DEALER HERE SAYS I NEED A MX 5000 TO GET THE 852 LOADER. HE SAYS THE 703 ON THE 4400 WONT BE BIG ENOUGH TO MOVE ROUND BALES.OTHER THAN THAT I WILL BE MOWING SOME CULTIVATION AND CLEANING UP BRUSH.ANY THOUGHTS
It sounds to me like the dealer may be on the right track. If I'm not mistaken, the MF 135 weighs about 3600 lb without the loader. That's about 100 lb heavier than the MX5000 - but is about 600 lb heavier than the L4400. It's always good to have some tractor mass when traveling with heavy loads (like round bales) up front.
I should stipulate that I am in the camp that believes there's no such thing as too much tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif My 2 cents.
I have a L4300dt and I think the L4400 took its place this year. I have moved a 1000 or so 4x5 bales with mine and it handle them fine but you need some weight in the back. If you don't it can get scary, I always stick one on the back before I move one with the front. I am going to move to a M6800 this year but I have been happy with my L4300 it is just a little lite for what I need to do and I want one with a cab. One more thing is it will not lift a round bale high enought to double stack on my goose neck trailer. Here is a pic of my tractor with hay on it.
