Newbie here. Great site for info. Hope you can help me. A dealer near here (Traverse City, Mich) has a 2001 L4610HST 4wd on his lot. 4 cylinder, ROPS, R4 tires, the rear ones loaded with dual rear remotes. It also has a 3 pt hitch, a block heater, and a LA852 Q/A loader w/ a 72" bucket, also Q/A. The tractor has 390 hours on it. He's asking $18,900. Is this a good deal? What should I be looking for with this tractor? Thanks for all your help!

There is a cab model ending soon on ebay, only 89 hours with a snow plow. Do a search on ebay for Kubota L4610. It is item number 7599553597. For some reason, I couldn't get the URL to work after I copied it, so just do a ebay search. Last I looked, it was at 22,000. You might take a closer look for comparison of features, etc.

Thanks Terry. I saw that tractor on ebay last night and just re-checked it. Still at 22,001. I would believe if the winning bidder gets it for 22K, it would be a great deal, what with the cab and plow being included. Aside from those items and the small number of hours, it is very similar to what I'm looking at. This does give a nice point of reference. Thanks again.

That's a great tractor you're looking at. I have one just like it and it's a real workhorse. Until the L5030 came along, the L4610 was Kubota's largest compact tractor, but it wasn't designed for heavy duty commercial service. However, the 46HP meant some units got put into agricultural/industrial or other uses where a heavier utility tractor might have been more appropriate.
So, in addition to the general condition of the unit, I'd be looking for signs the unit was used in some kind of heavy-duty operation. For example:
1. Tires... how much tread? More wear on front or back? Front wear may indicate heavy FEL use, for example.
2. FEL... the 852 loader was first of a newer generation of HD loaders for Kubota compacts. Condition of bucket, control lever, cylinders, etc. should tell you something of whether it has had normal use or "industrial" use.
3. Condition of 3pt... Look for signs of heavy use.
4. Cosmetic... sheetmetal, etc. ... If it's seen heavy service, there are probably more than normal scratches, dents, rust, etc.

If the unit truly has less than 400 hours on it, it should be pretty fresh. The engine, HST, 3pt, steering, all controls etc. should all be tight and operate pretty much as new.

Thanks Granddad. I appreciate the tips for searching out heavy use. Right now the tractor is serving as the "yard tractor" for the dealership. I'm not sure of how it was used before it was traded in. I'll check it out again with your tips in mind.
