Tractor
Kubota 4630 with cab and loader
I've pretty much narrowed down my new tractor to one of the two listed below. I'm leaning towards the L4630 because it's a little more powerful, and I think the powershift transmission will be better for my use, which will be loader work (maintaining manure), brush hogging, snowplowing my 1/4 mile steep driveway (with a backblade) and general farm work, including moving large round bales (about 1000lbs).

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

While other one would work, I would definitely agree with your view to get the extra hp and the powershift (I assume you mean GST). GST is more versatile with your fieldwork and for the same size tractor, more hp is always good.

Hey Rich! Long time no see!

I had the same choice to make last year, only for me both were HSTs because I live where everything is hilly, and like the safety of the hydrostat. I ended up with the 4630 because it was a better deal (used, but only 117 hours on the clock so it was significantly less than the brand new 4330). As I recall the extra hp of the 4630 is linked to the fact that it revs higher than the 4330.

You'd be happy with either. With that much power you'll rarely be revving the engine anyway.

Howdy, Pete!! I was hoping to hear from you!! I remember that you faced the same decision. My property is hilly, too, but I do a lot of loader work, including moving round bales, so I figure the hydro trans wouldn't be the best for me.

Do you ever take your bucket off to use forks or other implements? I'll be needing to take mine off often to use a bale spear, and I was wondering if it's as easy as the salesman claims.

I have the skidsteer style QA bucket and a pair of skidsteer forks that are switched back and forth constantly. I was worried that my lack of level ground would be an issue, but it's really not. If I can get one corner in position, curling the bucket makes the entire attachment drop right into position. Dismount, flip the two levers, good to go. Takes about 30 seconds and there really isn't any learning curve to speak of. It just doesn't get easier than that.

I would opt for the extra power, if I was making the decision.

Not like I'm biased, but I'd opt for the HST specifically because of it's precision manuverabilty/agility.
