I've looked at mahindra, but have decided to not go that route since they're not competitive price wise over my Kubota prices.

I like Kioti but distance and ease to dealer would be worse.

It'll be run as a small cattle farm eventually, which I plan on rotation grazing. The pasture is already padlocked off.

I may have my friend to mow it in hay letting him keep the majority just to keep from mowing it all.

I plan on eventually buying a ban sawmill but more for personal use than trying to saw commercially. Plus cutting firewood for the outdoor boiler

Plus I have a shop that could fit a tractor of this size but not the M6060 that I've priced, so I could keep it out of the weather.

I priced a new M6060 with a cab and loader for 40,000 and some change. Plus a slightly used L3301 with 100 hours on it for 13,000

jeff's boilerplate is good but we could use more info.

Is this for "business" or hobby?
If a business you might want to think a little larger at the outset, like a MX5800.

With 40 acres of wood - what are your plans for that?
Trail building?
Firewood?
Small personal sawmill?

Are you going to keep all the pasture "pasture"? How much bush hogging do you plan to do? 65 acres several times a year or run sheep and just an occasional touch up?

And have you looked at other brands? Kubota is noted for being "light", with other brands such a Kioti being heavier.

Overall the L4701 seems like a good starter choice.

And as far as "If you have two tractors about the same size, the older will sit, the newer will be used." Not true, buy a tractor for every attachment, saves time on hooking up the 3pt :)

Bingo.

I've 8 or 9 user tractors, all intended for a specific purpose. All have implements mounted and I do not remember mounting/dismounting implements in over 10 years.

That said, one would be wise to buy considerably more HP than is necessary to power the most HP intensive task that you anticipate if you have only a single tractor.

I would think a tractor like mine would be more ideal. I have a M6800 with a landpride 15 foot batwing. I am actually selling both and going to purchase a Grand L 6060 and a 12 foot batwing. I have shuttle shift but I just prefer hydro. Also, while my acreage is the same as your mine is primarily wooded.

A small/ short wheelbase tractor will beat you down and find every small hole on your place.
You can still have " seat time" and it will be more enjoyable with a larger/ heavier/ bigger tractor.

My dad mows about 40 acres. He has a 60 hp cab tractor with an 8-foot HD pull behind Bush Hog. Tractor is the right size for that work, but I'd rather run a 10 or 12-foot cutter and would plan my tractor around that. Of course, 4wd and a loader is a MUST.

I own a L4701 and I think it is a very good tractor. But I think I'd look for a bigger tractor for a property that size. Rhino does make a batwing that's 12 feet in width that looks like the L4701 could handle if you go that route.

Which models were you comparing? In my area Mahindra is cheaper than Kubota and seems like a much better deal but I hear so many great reviews about Kubota that I haven't made a decision yet. Would be interested to know if the pricing between the two is area or region specific.

I priced a 5570 mahindra and an open M7060 kubota. The price difference was 2,000 between the two.

That wasn't going to be a wide enough gulf for me to go mahindra over Kubota.

Now I'm focusing on Kioti or Kubota. I did a Google search on dealerships and it didn't bring any near by. I went to their main page and found one as close as the Kubota dealer. So I'm focusing on between them since there's a 6 to 8 thousand price difference between Kioti and Kubota.

The M7060 Kubota is a very good utility tractor, if a bit light. I shopped it before buying my M9960, deciding on the (larger than needed) M9960 because I thought it was a better deal.

I know little about Mahindra or Kioti, and the jury is still out on both.

At a minimum look at the 5E series from Deere. The smaller ones are 45-75hp. They are large frame but lower hp of that makes sense. Utility tractor should be what you’re focusing on vs a compact in my opinion. You could run an 8’ shredder pretty easily with the larger ones or a smaller 12’ batwing
