So far I have pulled the cables off the battery, cleaned the posts and cable connectors and reinstalled. Then I unbolted the ground wire from the frame, cleaned the frame and cable terminal and reconnected it. The tractor then started up as usual.
Ran it for a while then shut it down to put all the panels back on the tractor ( have to remove panels to get to battery). Now the dash just flickers on and off. Using the blinkers seem to make the flickers worse. Still no lights. Must be something in the dash or key switch not making good contact.
OK, now you are much much worse off than you were before in some ways.. Before you had an electrically "dead" tractor, now you have an electrically intermittent tractor. BUT, what did you do to now make it intermittant? You messed with the main battery cables. You now know the main fuse is not blown. You likely have defective (corrosion induced) battery cables. Did you Pull on them? And if you did, would they come apart in your hands? You could still make the voltage measurement I spoke of earlier. Positve lead on the starter bolt where the main positive battery cable terminates and negative lead on the tractor frame on a cleaned off place (no paint or dirt). Turn on the lights ( to place a load on the battery) and measure the voltage. What is it?
