I was out working the tractor hard clearing brush and honeysuckle with my root grapple on. About 1 hour in, I'm working an area that's facing downhill. Seatbelt on and being very careful to not tip. At one point, I went to backup and the engine tried to stall. kept doing it. I set the brake and hopped off, visually inspecting everything and didn't see anything that seemed abnormal.

I hopped back on, and I was able to backup again. after about 20ft, it tried to stall again. I disabled the stall guard and auto hst speed. Put the tractor to idle and turtle speed, and it starting backing up again. applied more throttle and was fine.

On the trip back to the house (about 2000') it tried to do it a couple more times. Each time, it happens immediatly as I press the pedal. I can here the switch in the pedal click, and that's when the engine starts to stall.

I've searched the forum and a likely culprit seems to be seat sensor, especially knowing that it attempts to stall when the pedal switch "clicks". doesn't matter what type of hst load I'm trying to appy - it's right at the click.

Questions:

1. What's the easiest way to verify the sensor is failing / faulty?
2. If the seat sensor checks out ok, what would be some other likely culprits to start investigating?

Thanks!

Tim

You put it in turtle and it was fine?
They will pretty easily run out of juice with HST and actuating the FEL/3rd position on a slope unless it’s in turtle.

Whenever I hear this issue,my mind goes to seat switch.
Seat switch isn't satisfied that someone is in the seat, then activates the shutdown solenoid.
Good Luck!

Only at that time. Later it was not fine

Good to know I’m not the only one. Come daylight tomorrow I’ll investigate.

Try disabling the seat switch and see if it continues. On my kioti there was a connector plug on the right “passenger side.” Unplug that and jump the two pin on the tractor side of it.

Easy way to isolate it

On my 4410 one of the wires to the seat switch broke in the harness. When everything was just right and the wires were touching I could move. When they weren't touching I couldn't move. Just the action of getting off the tractor and back on again was enough to make the wires touch again.

Not sure if they changed the wire colors or the type seat switch on your model but then one I have is a three wire switch. This is how the switch is configured on mine and how to check it.
To check the seat switch you will need a continuity tester.
Unplug the seat switch from the wiring harness
(there is a tab on the bottom that is hard to see, you may have to release the zip tie).
There are three wires on the switch (black blue orange) that terminate in male pins in the connector.
With the seat only all the way down there should be continuity between the black and orange wire only.
With the seat only up there should be continuity between the black and blue wire only.
Anything else and the switch is bad.

Looks like I have 2 switches, with 2 wires each.

1 switch is a plunger style that is under the seat, and theres 2 more wires travelling into the actual seat itself.

From reading, it seems like the plunger switch under the seat is for when I want to use PTO while not seated, and the sensor inside the seat is the one I should be concerned with.

So I took the seat off, and removed the underside plastic cover (a surprisingly difficult task as the screws were rusted in - I had to use an impact screwdriver). I removed the sensor (which also broke the bolts holding it in place because they were rusted in so bad they just snapped after 2 turns). Sensor looked fine, and (as I should have done before removing) tested just fine as well with my meter.

Cleaned up the blades for the wiring and put back on the seat by rotating it slightly and using some self tapping screws. Replaced rear cover. Replaced seat and tractor works fine now. So, def one of the switches (both test fine). My assumption is that is was just not making a great connection. when testing, it wasn't reading properly everytime until I cleaned it up, even though it didn't look dirty.

Thanks for the help!
