I didn't buy the Wix to save $2.50! I wouldn't spend $10 plus/quart on oil and then intentionally skimp on the filter. My belief (and admittedly I could be wrong) is the Wix is a premium filter that it's at least as good as, and likely better than the Kubota filter. I don't know who makes Kubota filters (pretty sure Kubota doesn't make them). I know Fram and other filter manufacturer's nowadays use some pretty low quality filter media. My belief is Wix uses premium materials. I felt the same way about the Amsoil vs the Kubota oil.

If anyone knows otherwise, I'm always open for improvement!

Take a good look at the OEM Kubota Hydrostat filter. You will note that the filter base is machined aluminum. No, I have no idea why, but the filter is definitely not low cost.

Hydrostat transmissions are built to close tolerances (closer tolerances than is the engine) and do not well tolerate incorrect or dirty oil.

I'll stick with Kubota filters and SUDT.

Let me point out that other manufacturers have started asking for fuel and air filters back on fuel system and turbocharger related warranty claims with tier 4 engines. And as I've stated they can't deny warranty if the filters are OEM spec, but if they find a flaw in that filter they will. Fuel system failures are far more common than catastrophic engine failure and can be a contributing factor.

Another thing about filters especially for those who change them only once a year or even less frequently, the weak link in the filter is the body which is made of paper. This paper even with 10hrs on it at the end of the year will be brittle and filters almost nothing. You have to move to fleece or synthetic body filters, this way you'll be protected, but they are not cheap. Mobil1 fleece is a good example and there may be more makes. This paper body filter is often overlooked as people say I don't put many hrs on my oil

That was interesting. I'll bet every product manager in the industry read that! It was nice to see Mobil 1 filters rated well. I use them in my cars and trucks. The study is old and I'm sure some things have changed, however, that was a great find. Well done!
