Well, after years of fighting those damned turnbuckles, I took a leap of faith and got the L8430 telescopic stabilizer kit - despite Messick's maintaining that they would not fit on an L2900.
Technically, they were correct....the mounting points on the L2900 are literally a hair too wide for the stabilizer ends to fit over. Without a word of exaggeration, maybe two minutes with a grinder to take off a millimetre or less of material...and they slid right over, like they were made for it.
