labor for 50-hour

Well, my estimate of pushing $1000 was only an estimate. I put high dollar hydro fluid in mine when I did the 50 hour myself and the materials alone were around $300. Add $385 in labor and my estimate came to close to $700. Your material costs might have been lower which would have put things closer to $500.

I'd be interested in knowing the total, without the brush gaurd.

And if you don't _feel_ ripped off, then you weren't.

What do any dealers here do when the repairs take two or more people? Like changing a heavy part or installing something that takes two people to hold in place and one to bolt it in? If I have to have a helper I usualy charge 1/2 my rate for just "Physical" help or double for "Experienced help " that actualy makes the job go faster. I dont know if I explained that right but hopefully y'all understand redneck:)

I'm guessing you would see different billing methods at different dealers. My Son is a mechanic at a Car dealership. All projects are billed according to an established rate. In that calculation, if the task requires two mechanics for more than 30 minutes, an extra hour is billed. It's not left to the mechanic to make that determination, it's already calculated in.

Some jobs pay him very well. Some don't. The pressure is on the mechanic from the dealership to get it done and get another one on the clock. The pressure is on the mechanic from the owner to get it right. Being the humans that we are, sometimes mistakes are made. The good part about established billing is that if the mechanic takes longer because of his errors or laziness, it doesn't cost the customer anything. Of course those mechanics don't last too long because they can't make a living. So it's a vicious circle.

I rarely take a repair to a shop. But when I do, I don't argue cost. I may ask for an estimate so I know what I'm in for. But I understand it's just an estimate.

I too just brought my NH tractor in for the 50 hr checkup. I had already bought a full set of filters, but decided since the tractor is still under warranty, I would let the dealer do it. All they charged me was for the filters and fluids. This is a courtesy they offer. I think this is fair. I also think that Citytransplant's dealer tried to take his head off at the kneecaps! My opinion of my dealer just went up a couple of notches. And yes, when the warranty runs out, I will do the work myself. Citytransplant - Thanks for sharing and good luck to you.
