Turtles or catfish create these?

Turtles do not lay eggs under water.

So catfish or something else? Have never noticed these before in last 18 yrs,doesn't mean they haven't been there,water is low and clear for this. time of year,no rain.

They appear to be typical sunfish nests, bluegill do these in areas and will drive off a good sized fish to keep them from eating fry/eggs.

My vote is for bluegill or sunfish also. They do this in my pond also.

Bluegill can be aggressive with people too. A friend and I went swimming in my pond last night and they bit us several times. One actually pulled the string on her bikini bottom so hard that it untied the knot!!!
