One of my friends invited me to help him and his family prepare the site, drill the piers, form and pour the beams for their new pier and beam home.

The site in outside of Terrel, Texas and the soil is sandy loam.

He got a Kubota with the property.

He'd prepared the site with a dozer and thought it was close enough.

My Hilti laser level told us otherwise. And there was this Hackberry tree.....

I dug out the roots on one side with Iris (JCB skid steer). We attached a chain to the tree as high as he could reach from the bucket of the skid steer.

Kubota pulled, JCB pushed, think about wolves, puffing and huffing, and pork for supper.

Day one was short with us removing the tree and cleaning up along with initiating the cutting of the pad for desired height and level.

Day two started out with Iris falling for the dozer. She didn't see it was a Deere. She just saw it was yellow, tracked, and a big boy if you know what I mean. It showed up, she acted like a puppy.

I think she just wanted the attention. The big boys attention.

Speaking of puppies, we have a new dog. Well, my wife has a new dog.

I'm of the opinion that the best way to train a dog is to have them with you. They learn by observing and interacting with the family. So I take the dog to work with me when I can.

The other day my wife called and asked how my day was going. I told her I was about to kill something.

"As long as it isn't long and brown and close to the ground you can do that" she said.

His Name is Doser, Nod E. Doser. He likes one of the client's dogs, her name is Aggie.

He also like girls and dirt

Day two was spent preparing the site. We had the Deere and Iris. They were a team, a pair of cut ups if you will.

Day three, yesterday, was about laying out the footing and preparing the footer along with starting the drilling of the piers. The outer beam wall will be thirty inches high by twelve inches wide. Six to eight inches will be a footer. The piers will be twelve inches wide and ten feet deep.

Iris digs the footer. She's not good at multi-tasking as seen with her attempt to oggle a Deere while moving dirt. But she is multi-talented.

We didn't get pictures of the pier drilling (Iris does that too). We got ten of them, about eighty to go.

Alright! Another exciting Harvey project in progress. All is right with the world. I couldn't help notice that now Iris also has a crush for dozers like Lucy.:D
