Lakeview Farms project (house)

Good to see another Harv project! A couple of things jump out at me:

Must have been an interesting ride in Iris the other day, assume everyone is OK?

What's with that puppy? All the pics show him laying down. Every puppy I've ever seen spends most of it's day a foot off the ground!

Great pics, thanks for taking the time to post Harv.

I recognize that Kubota tractor!!! It was here for awhile, so it's gonna be real fun to follow this thread and see what he builds.

Any hints? Last I heard, he wanted to build a log home.

I'm suprised that there are no pictures of the kids. What's he up to now? I think they had all 12 out here. hahaha

I figured the safety police would have been all over this, but I guess since it's Harv, folks have just come to expect this kind of "excitement"

We attached a chain to the tree as high as he could reach from the bucket of the skid steer.

and no pointers on keeping your bucket low, and go slow, etc.

Day two started out with Iris falling for the dozer.

Harv, I'm about as far south of Terrell (about 25 miles down Hwy34 toward Ennis) as you are north of Terrell, where did you find sandy loam? Most everything I've ever seen is blackland.

Doser's five inch legs make a foot off of the ground a dream. And he really is a laid back dog for a pup.

He is coming along rather nicely though. He's getting it that there are things that are his and there are things that aren't. I'll tell him "Doser that's mine, I paid for it, you didn't." He'll give me a serious look suggesting life isn't fair. I figure he should have figured that when he came to the party with five inch legs.

The tall as we could get grab with the chain is about leverage. Think of the leverage you have when you have the keys to the car and your teen doesn't.

I wasn't worried about the Kubota doing a back over when he pulled from that angle. We had the blade on the back low so if it did want to rare up the blade would act like a wheelie bar.

The roll over was because I looked over at the dozer coming up on the job site instead of concentrating on Iris. Normally the bucket would have instantly dropped as I instantly backed up onto level ground and avoided the roll over. Instead I froze and just held on as she gently rolled on over. Not a big thing, been there, done that.

Where do you think they get your sandy loam? Terrell area not only is the home of Jamie Fox. It's also the home of more sand pits than convenience stores and fast food joints combined. It's a hundred mile round trip from my house to the jobsite.

Alright! Another exciting Harvey project in progress. All is right with the world. I couldn't help notice that now Iris also has a crush for dozers like Lucy.:D

I was pricing new tires for the back of Lucy the other day. I've just about decided to go with all position (non-traction) over drive (traction) because Lucy will get stuck if you say "mud" anyways.

I've got some sandy loam on my property...along with black dirt and clay, it's strange to go from clay to sandy loam to black all in just a few feet and I'm just across the river from you.

If I recall this isn't the first time Iris has been on her side. Can't wait for the rest of this thread!

I don't think it could possibly be operator error. Everytime it seems to me it's been the ground's fault.

There are fifty four interior piers that had to be drilled along with thirty two piers in the perimeter beam. I originally started with drilling with my standard twelve inch bit and extension. This gets me down eight feet. The bit is Pengo and very aggressive. This is handy because in the sandy loam we have chunks of limestone. Some of the limestone is relatively soft for stone and some of it's rather hard for limestone.

I drilled most of the exterior piers down to eight feet and some of the interior when I realized just how big a problem removing the tailings or spoils was going to be. So I put on a borrowed twelve inch auger on my extension that allowed to get to ten feet deep.
