I just purchased a new Land Pride RCR 2596 rotary cutter. I have an issue with greasing the PTO universal joint next to the cutter. The shields make it impossible to reach the grease fitting. The dealer where I purchased it said "do whatever you like." I am thinking of either removing the offending safety shield or taking my rotozip and zipping off a large chunk of the bothersome shield.
I look forward to input on how others have handled greasing this PTO knuckle.

I unbolt the shaft from the mower (not a Land Pride). The PTO guard on the mower has small doors to be used to get to the retaining bolt.

Removing the shaft lets you bend the u joint to get access to the grease fitting in the center. Most of the u joints I've seen on PTO shafts would be hard to grease without doing that.

Buzman, I have the RCR2510 model, bought new. I had the same issue it is a bear to grease. Spoke to my dealer and he basically said the same thing yours did. I cut 2” holes out of the shield with a Dremel, along with a Lock n Lube on my grease gun and a 90 degree push on grease fitting attachment I can grease the cutter in 15-20 minutes now. I do remove the top shield on top of the cutter between the gearboxes to make things easier too.
It’s a great cutter, I just don’t understand why Land Pride makes such an important maintenance item so difficult. Enjoy your new cutter!

Just to clarify: when I say “remove the top shield” I mean the steel cover between the gearboxes, and replace it of course before use.

I have a Titan cutter with the same issue. I also have a 1" hole drilled in the plastic safety cover and also use a 90 degree attachment on my grease gun. It sometimes gets messy, but it works. 2" holes would probably give better access.
