Not an AC expert, but i dabble in it for automotive stuff. I have a recycler and gages etc.

Older home ACs and refridges both run on R-22. Which is still currently manufactured. R-12 the old auto AC is no longer made except some obscure country in Africa or maybe its south africa? The r -134 for current auto AC is rumored every year to be replaced with a more enviro friendly one. It use to be about $3-4/can 12 years ago, but that stuff has jumped to $8can at walmart and about $13/ 12oz can at auto stores on the cheap end. It has trippled here recently. I can still buy 134 without a license and use it personally. I have over 30lbs at my house currently. But i do beleive someone licensed will gladly pull old freon for free, as they can then use it or sell it to an AC guy who charges home ACs. Heck if you want to come to my house with your care i will gladly suck out the old 134 from your car it only takes about 10 mins, and i will even pull a 15 min vaccume to dry it out and get it ready for a charge, that i can also do for you, for a price.

But then agian you would nt be sucking freon out of a vehicle without problems.

All older home refrigerators and freezers used R-12, the same as old car a/cs.

(Except some of the old gas refrigerators like Servel that used ammonia)

If you can't get rid of the tires, find a use for them on your property. I have a neighbor who bolted six tires together in a triangle pattern to use as a field drag. He pulls the tire drag behind his draft horses to break up the manure clods in the field. The drafts get the exercise and the manure is broken up, which fertilizes the field. Have another neighbor who burried numerous old tires he had around the property in his shooting berm to better contain the bullets.
