You guys with a Landpride, how do you change the gearbox oil?

It looks like the two spindle gearboxes have drain plugs but no where to get a catch pan in there..l what a mess...

Looks like the center box doesn't have a drain....

Suction hose the best way?

Are you going to change the gear oil already?! Maybe in a few years or if the oil becomes murky or milky.

As you deduced, it is not a common practice so the implement was built without taking that into consideration.

On the other hand, removing the blades for sharpening or replacement is anticipated so an access hole is provided.

Greasing is another expected task so the gearbox cover is removable with hand knobs. (Although it is a relative PIA.)

He bought it used so I'm guessing why Wont's to change it. I haven't ever changed mine never seen a need too,it wasn't that old,should be pretty long life on the oil since really doesn't see continuous use. Think when last time changed the oil in your axle on pickup. Im probably wrong with my thinking but if it's not contaminated,let it ride,if or when lose a seal then change. There isn't an Allen wrench plug on the side of gearbox?

Yeah, don't know the history so was thinking about changing for pease of mind.

Maybe over thinking it.

I changed mine the other day and it was just the opposite , the gentler box had a drain the outer two didn't. I used a suction gun on the outers and used a large short sided pan and a piece of card board as a drain tray.

When I bought my used Woods finish mower, I wanted to change the gear box oil because I had no idea if or when it was changed and, if it was ever changed, what they had used in it. I used one of these suction pumps from Harbor Freight to get the old oil out. It's cheap enough to throw it away afterwards if you don't want to clean it and keep up with it.
