Landpride BB1260 for residential driveway work @ 346 Lbs: good choice?

To the OP....you gave a bigger tractor than my B2620, but the BB1260 is what I use with my B2620. Works great for me in crushed driveway gravel and sandy loam.

I've never felt the need for a heavier box blade, as you can control the cut by setting your top link or using the ripper teeth. I built one mile of bush road with mine.

Guess that would depend on dealer. I get my Land Pride implements for same price from my Kubota dealer as they all want for cheap no-name brand stuff.
I priced 4 dealers and the implements were the same price between the 4.

If you don't cut to the bottom of the holes and ruts, nothing get's better, just covered up.

Drop those chisels!

Buy heavy, but not too wide for your tractor power (traction)

BEFCO makes a nice heavy land plane. I bought a 6' in the summer and really like it. Decent price for a new one. I also have a 5' frontier LP.

I currently have a 55 hp tractor and a cheap Indian made 7' box scraper. Bent it excavating when I hooked roots. Stalled the tractor too. Used to have a mid 50s 21 hp Case. Bought a used 6' Gannon (Woods bought them and discontinued the line) box scraper. Always worked great (admittedly the tractor had a first gen 3 point hitch and was light -- I had to back up to dump the load to lift it clear). It would be hard to see that you would buy one too heavy for your 3 point. Look up the lift capacity, drop 500# and you should be good. On the other hand, if it's really just a road maintainer you need, there are a LOT of choices out there for that. I am partial to box scrapers over blades (they are better for snow though). And I have a neighbor that will lend me his road maintainer. I would get a box scraper that's 6-12" wider than your tractor. You can offset it towards posts and fence lines and keep it off the fence, or similar items, and still be compact. If you are using R1 versus R3 tires, of course the traction and conditions will impact how you can use it. Buy once, cry once. I bought my Indian blade knowing it was a stop gap. And then I stopped it and bent it. Price was okay, still looking for a better one that's not worn out. And I'm willing to crack my wallet over.

I bought mine new 6' titan, now iron work or something like that name for $600 from my dealer. Works well. If your problem is weight, just add something on top of it like cinder blocks

I need a blade box for light residential driveway work - for removing some rots and spreading new gravel. I have a Kubota B3200 with loaded tires and 4" spacers.
After reading the forums, I left with the impression that for grading work the weight of the box blade was vital. Because of this information, I went to my Kubota dealer to price a Landpride BB1560 @ 428Lbs or a BB2560 @ 471 Lbs.

To my surprise, the Kubota dealer is telling me that the best match for my tractor would be a BB1260 @ 346 Lbs. Of course, ironically this is the only blade box he has in stock. They want $1,000 for it, which is tempting.

I would like to get a second opinion from the group to verify whether a lighter blade box like the BB1260 would be adequate or a waste of money. Is 346 Lbs on a 60" box good enough for residential work? I honestly would love for this smaller BB1260 to work well with my tractor and my needs but I need to double check with the group.

Yeah, its great dealers when try to convince you what they've got in stock is what you need...

Go heavy on box blades or rear blades if you plan on moving a lot of dirt. My place is all slopes so I make roads and flat spots all the time and the box blade and I've been redoing my 1/4 mile driveway ditches this fall and its a good tool for that. I think about 25% of my total tractor time has been with the box blade, and I've glad I got one that ended up in the 150lb/ft range. But probably one near 100lbs/ft should work well.
If you think you are going to use it a lot then going heavy is worth it, a light one will probably work, but it will more take more care not to break, and more passes. A hydraulic top link is nice to have to use the scarifiers without dropping them, and dumping a sticky load of dirt, also I should get a side link as well.
There are a few things a box blade can do that other tools can't, with the scarifiers, dirt containment, and pushing with the rear blade, all in one.

The length of the top link makes all the difference in how a box blade functions. Lengthen the top link to reduce how much the blade digs in, shorten the top link to increase the cutting ability.
When a box blade is exactly level the front and rear blade edges are at the same level, not much cutting ability in either direction.
To spread new crushed stone I set the top link so the front blade is a bit higher than the rear blade when going forward. This prevents the front blade from digging into the old existing crushed stone, and just fills potholes and wheel ruts.
I would not buy a new unit, there are lots of good lightly-used box blades for sale. I found mine by just driving around on country roads with my wife as a 2nd spotter watching the right side of the road. However I found mine while still driving on a highway enroute to the other end of our county. $300 for a 6'box blade.

I have the LandPride BB2584 behind my DK4520. No issues pulling it. Changing the pitch front to back using the top link will change the aggressiveness of the cut. Something else I learned very quickly is to modulate the 3pt height while driving. Don't just keep the implement against the ground digging and digging. Use it to loosen the soil/gravel and then figure out the proper height to spread the loosened soil/gravel evenly.
