Kubota M4D-071
I have a Kubota m4D-071 with all tires on the widest setting and the rear filled with rim guard. The tractor with loader is around 7300 pounds. I can also install my almost 1000 pound grapple if needed. Also I will only be mowing flat land. No hills or ditches. Just need it for under trees and stuff like that.
The landpride OFM3698 offset flail says it weighs 2200 pounds. My Kubota 3 point can lift 3300 pounds. At a glance you would think it could lift it with no problems. But what I’m worried about is, can it lift 2200 pounds that sits so far back on the 3 point. The mower is 80” from the 3 point when tucked up close to the tractor. I’m assuming out even further when extended. I know that weight gets heavier the further away it is from the tractor. I would hate to get the mower here and it not be able to lift it.

Shaun - these offset mowers can be very useful. I would STRONGLY suggest you read this thread. "Looking at hydraulic offset flail for 3038e".

It makes some very enlightening facts about the use of an offset flail.

As you probably know - it's not just can the tractor lift the mower while extended. It's also, will it be safe to operate when extended.

I think if you are only mowing flat terrain then go for it, if you feel comfortable.
The 8' cutting head will be very heavy, extend that weight out around 11' when
fully off set and you'll have your hands full.
Do a bit more research. You might want to look at something with a 6.5' or 7' cutting
width especially if you plan on cutting pond or ditch banks. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for posting the specs for me, yes sir it will be close for sure. Luckily I will only be mowing flat land. I have no hills or ditches anywhere on my land. I just want it to get under trees and close to fences. I was really only worried about not being able to lift it. Wasn’t sure if that much weight would be to much that far behind 24”.

If I had only flat land to mow, I might consider the 8' flail. The flail head will
be supported and running on the rear roller. Amount of acreage I need to mow
would also be a factor for me. I could have gotten a larger flail, but after advice from
my sales guy (who had actually used flails) I'm glad I listened to him regarding
weight when extended etc etc. I use mine for pond/tank mowing, road/tree/shrub clearance
and mowing.
You're at the low end of HP needed for that flail according to the manuf. Again good luck.
Btw, I like your M4D-071, looks to be pretty nice.

My M4 is actually 73.2 horsepower so it’s really close to the 75 suggested horsepower. Thanks it’s really nice and looks good with the wheels spaced out.

I guess I am going to be a wet blanket here.

You should look at the Del Morino and Maschio Literature describing boom mounted offset flail mowers
literature and compare the three brands of offset boom mounted flail mowers and you will see the differences.

If you are going to buy a land pride mower the only model you should buy is the OFM3678 nothing larger for
your mule, especially if you have no suitcase weights in front.

Please do pay any attention their claims in the literature.

Del Morino & Maschio both make nice flails. Also Peruzzo & Acma make nice flails.. Check them all out.

OK - these are the Kubota M6040 recommended limitations for a flail mower.
- 120 inches wide
- 1760 pounds

In your owners manual, under "Implement Limitations" - see what Kubota recommend for your M4D-071.

Although the specs for my tractor don't say - I'll bet the width and weight are for "centered" flail mower - not an offset mower.
