I don't know a lot about seeders but am trying to learn more as I need to at the very least broadcast seed my pastures this spring. That said, I stopped by my dealer this past weekend and he was all excited about some new type of overseeder that Landpride has apparently just released in order to compete by selling to the farmer/larger estate owner/smaller contractor. All I know is that it sells for around 3500-4000 dollars, weights around a thousand pounds (not loaded), and is not PTO powered. It looked to have two adjustable spiked wheels in front of the seeder and one in the back and can be adjusted to seed bare ground or existing grass without destroying it.

It's Landprides answer to the Woods Super Turf Renovator seeder. Not a bad design, but not quite what I'm after.

I've heard people's endorsments for Landpride products in general, but I'm looking for any experience with the OS-15 Overseeder, 72" model specifically. Looking at the slit seeder option too. I'm considering expanding the mowing operation somewhat, to include turf renovation. (Some interest from clients as well as to justify owning one for my own use) My experience with seeders is with Brillion or Toro.

TIA,
Bill
I have rented that model twice in the past. No complaints. Worked as advertised. The stands were good both times. I have also used it as a primary seeder and tilted the unit back with my hydraulic top link. Worked good as a primary seeder. A true primary seeder has a set of rollers in the front where the rotating tines are located. If the ground has clods, the front set of rollers will help crush them and prepare the ground. I currently have the landpride 72" primary seeder.

I've rented this type of over seeder for a few years now and I love it. It does a great job over bare ground or thick turf. I've never had to set the front rollers to be aggressive but the option is nice to have. The one I rented was a Frontier 60 in. sold by John Deere. The Woods model STR-60-2 is exactly like it, I mean just like it except for the color. I'm sure Woods makes them for Frontier and the Woods is cheaper. The tractor I rented was a 37 HP JD 3520 and it handled the overseeder without any problem. I liked the JD so much I went out and bought one and will get an overseeder for next Fall grass seeding.
