Landsape Rake Uses

I'm looking at buying a King Kutter 7' landscape rake. I was wondering, have any of you used one (backwards) as a way of smoothing out a food plot like you would with a drag?

If you extend your top link out far enough, it would probably work pretty well. Never tried it though.

I used mine in the backwards position last fall for packing some broadcast grass seed. This spring I can see all the tine tracks where it is coming up nicely.

That's exactly why I bought mine. I removed every other tine and use it to settle down the 'fluff' after I till.

I have a 5' and 7' landscape rakes and they are good for cleaning up trash and debris. For smoothing tilled ground I prefer a spike tooth harrow and roller for covering seed.

The last year or so I find my landscape rakes do more sitting and the pine straw rake getting more use. Everything Attachments has a new pine straw rake out with replaceable tines that you should look at. The smaller round tines allow the dirt to flow through better than a landscape rake.

Agree with Jenkins - I use the landscape rake for smoothing/leveling out the dirt and collecting rocks and sticks. The york rake collects too much dirt with each tine in place so I use a spring tine thatcher.

This scratches up the surface where compacted from tractor tires etc and then I seed and roll - also in the early spring I thatch and overseed areas using the same method. The small thatchers new are inexpensive or find one on CL for $30-50.

I use mine to grade my gravel road. It smooths without digging in too much. Also use it to smooth the dirt after I disk it up. I really leave a great surface. I dont turn it backward, just turn it on about 45 degrees and let it shuffle the dirt to one side. I think it might do a better job if I removed every other tine as suggested earlier here.

When SWMBO wanted one of our gardens enlarged this year I ploughed it multiple times and then used the landscape rake with multiple passes to take out the sod, rocks etc and smooth it. I have a set of harrows but find the rake easier in smaller spaces. We "grow" a lot of "Texas Pea gravel" in out area so there always rocks to remove and the landscape rake at least puts them in one spot.

Lot of different ideas out there. Thanks for all the replies. If it goes cheap enough I still may buy it. It's in an online auction.
