Rake Landscape Rake Gauge Wheels

Anyone ever found a cheaper way to put gauge wheels on their rake. I'm pricing a landpride 7ft rake along with a 6ft box scaper and the landpride kit for gauge wheels is like $350. Seems high. Dealer said retail is $400. Any comments?

A King Kutter 7' landscape rake is $469 and the guage wheels about $200. I have them on a 6' rake. They aren't as sturdy looking as I would like. So far nothing has bent, but I only have about 6 hours on them.

Your dealers price is not that unreasonable, I gave about the same for the wheels on my Lienbach rake.

Now I see why the KK guage wheels are only $200 vs $350 for the landpride. The landpride is way better built. Rather than tubing going from the rake to the wheels, the KK has what I believe is a 1/4" x 2" bar, but I'd have to measure to be sure.

FWIW, I thought gauge wheels would be a nice option on my 7' landscape rake. But the reality of the situation is that I almost never use them. At first, I just adjusted them to max height so they'd be out of the way. But since I haven't dropped them down in two years now, I'm thinking about taking them off all together.

Yea. I've been going back and forth on whether to get them or not. I here varying opinions on their usefullness. I guess it depends what you are doing. My work tends to vary quite a bit so I probably will need them at some point and usually find that I better get it while I can cause adding things after the fact is a pain. Still kinda wish I would of got Top N Tilt and a Hydro Thumb when I bought the L39.

One of the things I will need to regularly is pull debris out of the yard without damaging it too much. I would imagine gauge wheels would prevent the tines from digging in.

With the gauge wheels taking the implement weight off the tines, you'll save the turf - but a lot of stuff will roll right out under the tines. What I find works better in that situation is a really short toplink.

Easy for me to say though, because I do have a HTL - one of (if not the) best aftermarket purchase I've ever made for a tractor. But if a HTL is not on your shopping list yet, you can get light duty Cat 1 toplinks as short as 13" for under $20
