The recent post about using the landscape rake to move rocks from a field reminded me of a question I've been meaning to post. We are removing a couple of gravel drives on our property and also cleaning up where some large piles of gravel were stored. I've used a box blade to get some of it out but once I get down to the ground level that won't get the gravel that's even with or just below the surface of the dirt without also removing a whole bunch of dirt. Would a landscape rake work to get the gravel raked up into a pile? My local implement dealer thinks the tines would be too far apart and wouldn't work well on gravel like you'd find on a driveway but it sounds as if some of you use the rakes to maintain your drives and are happy with the results.

I do not think the landscape rake will do the job. A back blade may work better. The tines on my Land Pride rake let a lot of dirt or gravel pass through the tines.

I agree with ronjhall. I doubt the landscape rake will do what you want.
I have had my rake for a couple of years now and love it. But it does have limitations. Digging up gravel might be too difficult for a landscape rake.

But the rake excels at moving fresh gravel. For example, last saturday, I moved 35 tons of 1/2" crushed rock for my church parking lot. I did spend 3 hours on it, but it looked really good when I got done. I just spread it out with the FEL the best I could then raked it in two directions.
.. best that parking lot has ever looked, according to the parisioners.

While I regularly use the landscape rake to smooth our gravel drive it would be a poor choice for actually moving the gravel. I use the FEL to redistribute the gravel itself.

It sounds like your gona have to do the last part by hand if you want to leave the soil behind

I'd scuff it up with the rake and then move it with the loader set not to dig in.
